I cared for my crew in Mass Effect 2. Was sad when in Mass Effect 3 some of them... you know.

Other then that, I remember playing the old COD's, like COD 1, COD 2: Big Red One, etc. and getting really attached to my squad. So if any of them actually died in battle, I actually felt kind of bad.

Not a lot I can remember.
Oh god, you just reminded me of Bloomfields death :'(

OT: Hmmm...... families: no, individual characters: yes. I felt a strong bond between the crew of the SSV Normandy.

Well, I felt for John Marston's family. I'm also kind of protective of Scouts-Many-Marshes in Skyrim. I only married him to get a safe spot inside of Windhelm, since I was with the empire and I couldn't wait to oust Ulfric so those poor dark elves and argonians could maybe move up a little on the social rung. But I grew fond of him and moved him to my house in Solitude to protect him from the invasion.

I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned Katawa Shoujo yet. I felt true attraction and affection towards three of the characters, with strong feelings for the other two as well. That game moved me on a level unreached by any other form of media I've ever seen or used.

The only one I can think of is Mafia, where you get married about halfway through, and yes, I had affection for Sarah, as the game showed just enough aspects of her to show she had a real believable presence, and since I already cared so much about Tommy (being so down to Earth and relatable), I cared by default for those he cared so much about.

Especially as by that stage I was so deep into the story that I played Tommy every bit as if I were him. His motivations were always very clear to me, and with the well written story it was quite easy to adopt his needs and goals as my own.
Oh I loved Mafia and thought the story was superb! The way they built the story around the characters really made you care for them, like Sarah :)

Yeah, kind of. I've never been head over heels over a character, but there are some characters who are well developed enough to have personalities I like. I would definitely enjoy meeting a similar personalities to these characters in real life.

Katawa Shoujo is great at this. But because it's so good at developing characters and creating attachment, I find it difficult to start up playthroughs for other routes. ):

Familes, not so much, squads? oh god no please don't die!
Playing the ME2 Suicide mission with a friend who was, like myself, a huge ME player, we played the ending together, shouting, crying and cheering those who lived; great stuff.
And, another poster reminded me of this, but In CoD II Big Red One, the scene where Brookland dies to the mortar was just tragic, every time another comrade died I felt spurred to fight harder, kill more, take revenge!

(Grrr)

Bioware games? Yeah, I form an attachement to just about all the characters. I get upset if anything bad happens to them. Cried my damn eyes out when...
Mordin, Legion, and Thane die
.

But in other games? Tried it in Fable 2, but it seemed so out of place that I was actually happy when they died off. Took the money and never looked back.

I was upset for Ezio's family. Probably the reason why I relished killing that two-faced bastard early on in the game.

I have a deeply passionate hatred for my children in Fable 2 and, 3 mainly because I can't kill them and that just pisses me off. Sure, I didn't die when I was shot as a child and thrown from a top-floor, Castle window but I don't get to do anything close to that with my children!

Of course! How else would I decorate my basements?

For realsies, no, I've never really cared, no matter how well written they are. I just don't really like most characters in Mass Effect, and no other game really gives you a good relationship.

Not exactly romance....more of a BROmance, but Boone in F:NV. He is such a developed character, and the fact that I had him throughout most of the game, and his quest, which really develops him personally. The sniper and the swordsman, the wasteland's most dynamic duo!
