I was wondering what percentage of escapists had asthma. I do from an experimental procedure that saved my premature posterior, but it is mild and well controlled.
How bad do you have it, what meds do you take?

I "have" asthma. It kind of... comes and goes. I mean the last time it bugged me was about 2 years ago.

I think I'm due for another one, what with all the smoking.

OT: My answer has not changed since the last thread from about a second ago. My meds are simply my Inhaler, which I barely use, only in times that I really need it. And sometimes to get a buzz. :p

Yep, I have asthma.
My last peak flow reading was 450 quite recently, (Im 34, 5"1 and weigh 9 stone)not too bad. I'm taking a reliever inhaler very occasionally if my asthma can't be managed on the preventer (250 mg every evening) Got diagosed way back in 1984, but my dad's a severe asthmatic, so, it wasn't too much of a surprise really. I've got it 'moderately' according to the doctor.

I was diagnosed at the age of 12 (I am 30 now)
It is generally mild but if I get an infection or my allergies go haywire, it bumps up to the moderate/severe catagory. Sad thing is my son is showing signs of inheriting this for me and his dad.

Daily:
Advair 250/50
Singulair 10 mg
Nasonex

As Needed:
ProAir

Severe:
Albuterol via Nebulizer
Pulmicort via Nebulizer
Oral Prednisone
Prednisone shot

Yes. I've been to hospital about a half dozen times because of it. Part of the reason why it's so bad is because I have truly terrible allergies to heaps of things. It's manageable if I regularly take medication though, which is fortunate.

I used to have terrible asthma when I was younger. Although now a days, it's not as bad.

Still there though, just not as bad as it used to be and it only really acts up during winter time.

Yeah, my answer is basically this^. Though I get by with out having to take meds. It's weird though because the only times I've ever had an asthma attack was when pushing myself while running. (It's not self-diagnosed. A doctor diagnosed me by the way.) I would be running on a track, have an attack, and end up almost passing out on the side of the track. It was interesting during my time in the military because I would insist on running despite the difficulty breathing. Then a CO saw me lagging behind, running funny. He approached and ordered me to stop and go get checked out because my eyes were "getting glossy" and my face was "turning blue". I was also dealing with a lingering knee injury and a lingering shoulder injury. That was rough. I remember trying to run for the APFT (PT test) while the bounce from every step meant a stinging/stabbing pain in my upper back (the injury is around my shoulder blade area), my knee felt like it was getting hit with a nightstick or something, and the asthma flare made it feel like I was choking...rough. In case your wondering about my logic for not stopping, I figured that, since I was trained as a Combat Medic, somebody could die because I didn't get to them soon enough. Also, I couldn't just stop in the battlefield or I'd get killed. So, yeah...

Yes, I have asthma but it rarely ever affects me. I've only really ever had one attack.

However, like Pimppeter2 I currently still smoke. I'm giving them up very, very soon though (check out the e-cig thread) Loads of asthmatics seem to smoke I've found; It's quite bizarre I have to say. (Me included)
This made me laugh... I was diagnosed at 6 months old, (I'm 36 now) and when I was a teenager I went through the 'gotta try it' stage for smoking. My best friend had CF and we starting smoking at the same time. Was the whole....I'm not getting any better doing what I should, so I'm gonna do stuff I shouldn't...thing.

My asthma has almost killed me twice, and right now I'm in end stage treatment. Pretty much means that I've been on all of the conventional treatments (And most of the unconventional), but all have failed. The last treatment for me was IgG infusions. They worked for 14 years before I developed an allergy to it. Now I just take it day by day and and roll with the punches. If anyone wants anymore info, just ask... I've done numerous reports on asthma and feel like it is one of the most misunderstood lung diseases.

Smoking with CF? I've never heard anybody doing that before; risky indeed. That's pretty awful Newfiegirl 110; haven't even heard of those treatments until now. So, how long did you smoke for, and was it that which has made your asthma unmanageable now?

I agree with exactly what you're saying though, a number of my asthmatic friends are heavy smokers, who have the attitude that they don't care about the consequences etc...
Glad I've quit

Yeah I got it. Preventer (Seratide) x2 morning and night. And I got a reliever too(Ventolin), which I pretty much never need.

Nope, though I do have a close friend who has a minor case of it. He doesn't hyper ventilate, but he keeps the inhaler with him just in case.

I had asthma actually, and although I did took medicines, I cannot remember which were, since I lost it like at the 9 years old.

I award you one Internet for you for that reference. Well done.

I do have asthma, but exercise-induced only. Under normal circumstances, it doesn't affect me at all. If I do heavy cardio stuff, though, my lungs give up on the idea pretty quickly, but not to the point that I actually have to take anything for it to survive, just stop for a bit to recover. Where "a bit" is more like 30 minutes, but who's counting? I've occasionally (usually every few years since middle school) tried to find an inhaler that works for it, but I haven't had any luck so far. My solution has mostly been to just not do stuff that triggers it, so no running farther than the end of the block, but I can walk, or even go hiking/mountain climbing, pretty much indefinitely, as long as I stay below that threshold, so I manage.
