Poll: Do you hold open doors?

So here's a question I have for you escapist: Do you hold open doors for people in public? If so, why? If not, why not?

I do, because it's something I was taught to do when I was very young, and I guess I've kept it ever since. It's just something I thought was expected of young men

I do, if someone is within a reasonable distance anyway. I'm not going to wait for ages.
It's pretty much an automatic response. I wish more people would thank me though.

Anyway, yes I do, unless I'm feeling physically ill and sprinting to the bathroom, resulting in my math teacher stopping me to give me a lecture and me vomiting on her shoes.

Of course I do, it only takes a few extra seconds and I know how small but nice it feels to have that happen.

Unless I have my tuba on and I have to carry it odd to get through a doorway. If that happens, ***** can open the door themselves.

As do I. If someone is a reasonable distance away I see no reason not to. Tip of the hat, sir.

I think it should be expected of everyone. I would certainly frown upon a young woman who let a door slam in my face.

If there are people close behind me, yeah I do. Of course, my definition of close is so big I end up holding dorrs for 2-3 minutes as more people keep coming close enough for me to say " eh, that's close."

Of course I do. It's the polite thing to do anyway. Unless I'm in a rush or the only person who's heading towards the door I'm opening is far away.

I always hold open doors, so many people on campus just let them shut when someone is right behind them and it annoys me to no end.

i do. not from any sense of moral obligation though. it's more like some autonomic reflex.

I always hold them open, especially for people I know. I make sure to be first at the door just to be able to open it.

I tend to. If I'm walking through a door and I see someone coming in, or behind me, I'll leave it open for them. I hate it when they just ignore me though >:c

I do wish some people had the courtesy of thanking me though.

Yes I do but I have to admit I get quite arsy when people don't do it for me and let it drop in my face OR if they don't say THANK You!

I have been know to mock and embarrass people who do not say thank you...

I do it out of some misguided notion of gentleman-ship, especially if I happen to like the female in question. I will also do it for men of course, out of another misguided notion of kindness. The same goes for when someone drops something I pick it up for them, because I am a "top lad"

Yes, simply out of politeness. Although I don't come across selfshutting doors these days, When I do, I tend to keep them open for people behind me.

I do it because I expect others to do it as well. Reap what you sow.

I do, but I have been doing it less and less because after I hold the door for one person, nine more pick up their pace to take advantage of my generosity. I have been cussed outmany times because I held the door open for one person then blocked the next because it was my turn.
