It's the nice thing to do. I've been known to hold the door open for a stream of strangers if I'm not in a rush. It feels good.

I do. I also say "excuse me" when I closely pass by someone on foot, it's just common courtesy. Unfortunately, I do notice courtesy is becoming more and more uncommon nowadays...at least where I work.

That's really a shame, if you think about it. Still, it brightened my day when I saw an 8 year old (I'm guessing age) run forward ahead of his mother to open a door for an old lady. That was very nice

Yes I do but I have to admit I get quite arsy when people don't do it for me and let it drop in my face OR if they don't say THANK You!

I have been know to mock and embarrass people who do not say thank you...
HOLY SHIT THIS! One time I was at a concert at the House of Blues and I was waiting for my ride. A lot of people were walking out so I held this huge heavy door for everyone for a good 7 minutes and not a single thank you was uttered. After awhile I just let go and said out loud Fuck you people are rude!

I work in the service industry. It is part of my job description to hold open doors. So yes I do.

Yes, but only if the door opens away from me. And if they're not too far away. Which they are. And then it's awkward.

If I can see that person or know they are in front or behind me I will open the door for them (assuming I have the time to wait a minute) if they are already leaving the room and have started moving the door, I will kindly step to the side.

I usually do if they're nearby, but sometimes i forget because we're not allowed to do it at work because it fucks with the key cards and the security system.

I either hold it open or push it so that it will be open when the person gets there, depending on how close they are and which way the door opens.

I do it out of some misguided notion of gentleman-ship, especially if I happen to like the female in question. I will also do it for men of course, out of another misguided notion of kindness. The same goes for when someone drops something I pick it up for them, because I am a "top lad"
It's telling about a society when people consider "Not being a dick" to be "misguided."

I never intentionally let a door close on someone. It's a douchebag thing to do, and if I do so unintentionally, I apologize.

I love how offended some of the people in this thread seem to be at the idea of someone not doing it. It's a door...and unless you're handicapped in some way that keeps you from easily opening a door, then calm down there.

To answer, I do sometimes. If the person is literally right there, I'll do it. Otherwise, not always. I really don't care if people do it for me either. I have two hands. I can handle a door.

Let me put it this way: If I don't hold the door open for you, you did something wrong.

I hold it open for as long as it takes me to keep it open when walking away, might pause a bit if the persons about to get there. Otherwise I only hold the door open if the person looks like they may have a hard time opening the door themselves.

I do, simply because just dropping it in their face seems so rude. Like drying your hands with a paper towel and than throwing it at someone's face.
