Well, if I can't walk half a mile in Winter weather on a hil, then I cannot go.
I don't really consider myself, "Sick," until I can't get outta ged, though.

or if i call in sick too much on say 'a friday' or too many times it's 'two days in a row'. They've had problems with people abusing sick days. And the higher ups think a draconian sick policy is the best way to deal with excessive overtime.
The worst sick policy I've ever seen is that employees must use two PTO days before they can use their sick leave.

My work is pretty lenient with sick days, they have a

"Stay home, don't infect the office." policy.

My girlfriend gets fired if she takes too many sick days, she also needs to provide doctors notes.

My work requires doctors notes for anything so if it's not worth going to the doctor, its not worth staying home for.

I'm contract scum. If I don't come into work, I don't get paid. I need to be dead before I'll consider taking a day off. I consider the sudden rash of absences in the weeks following my refusal to take a day off as my own form of silent protest against.... whatever it is I hate about working there.

I have never called in sick during the year I have been working as a Swimming Instructor. I don't do this for the money, because I could easily cover a shift the next week and make up the money. I don't take the day off work because there are never enough instructors, and it's really hard to find cover, especially on short notice. If I take a day off, the kids I teach might have an instructor turn up late, and even if they do get a good instructor covering, that teacher has to spend the first 10 minutes of the lesson getting to know the abilities and confidence of each child. When I take my classes, I know the abilities of each child and can structure a lesson accordingly. Also, when teaching infants and pre-schoolers how to swim, any change to their routine (i.e a different instructor) disturbs and scars them. Spending half an hour crying doesn't help a child swim. Their parents pay a lot of money for swimming lessons, and my job essentially saves lives. So I would rather suffer the sniffles, a headache or even a mild fever for a single day while at work than hinder my students learning how to swim.

(wow, sorry that was so long winded)

Well i guess i have an excuse as i have chronic fatigue syndrome that makes it impossible to do anything when i'm having a bad time of it. Colds etc knock me out for 2x the length of healthy people. However, when i start to get a cold i usually went into College for as long as i could before the tutor insisted i went home. Seems they'd be a better judge than i of whether i was fit to study or not. I just know when i'm ill i'll have to take a lot of time off, and it's annoying, so i go in as much as i can.

I don't think I've taken a sick day in years. Practically nothing can impair my normal activities.

I don't, but I changed the question to be "school" for me.
So yea, I do, unless it's really bad.

I feel sad for the people that are forced to work when they are sick, either by circumstance or management.

If I can use my brain at full capacity and I'm not so physically crippled that I can still move around, then I'm going. I can't afford to fall behind.

Can't. Food service. If I am noticeably sick, they send me home; if I come in noticeably sick too often, I get my ass fired.
