i think people like me invert the y axis is because of the way our brain precieves the camera for those who use non inverted it in the head but just tilting it up and down but people who invert the y axis precieve the camra to be behind the person and not only tilting but chainging arch so looking up tilts the camera up but moves it downward and that move downward to us is made to appear more important
but i don't see how inverting y axis makes you walk into walls it not effect motion

an even better question to anyone invert y axia is who inverts x axis

And I consider all who only plays in 2d or 3d as opposed ti 7-dimensional games to be lower lifeforms who should bow to my awesomeness :p
total of 13 dimensions precieved and accepted in this universe and that what i play accept gears 2
in that i invert the ☻ axis and the § axis

I said neither, unless I'm on a flight sim, naturally.

With planes it's 3rd person, so I imagine it tilting the actual plane, joystick style. On a FPS I think of it as pointing the eyes directly where they wish to go.

the bane of my existence is trying to play Goldeneye 007 again. I can't deal with the inverted Y-axis on the C-buttons

I never invert the y-axis. I remember the opening of Halo on the PC, where Master Chief steps out of the pod. You had too look at some coloured markers with the y-axis inverted. Took me ten minutes.

PC-When you have to fly.
Console-When you have to aim with the left stick. (in adventures, for example)

Ive never understood this. Why would you invert? How is anything more intuitive and manageable then the tautology of, "Up is up, down is down"?. Press button in the direction you want to go. I mean, I wouldn't want A or the left button to move right, and d or right to go left, hows up and down any different?

I mean, if it works for you, more power to you, but it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Best explanation I can give, place your hand on top of your head and push forward. Which way does your line of sight go?
Now do the same, but pull backward, again which way did your line of sight go?

I suppose it's more a case of what you learn first, but that's how I explain inverted Y axis controls.

I can't stand inversion in an FPS, but I can only play flying games inverted. It's weird and I don't understand it, I feel ambidextrous in a way.

Nope. And I never really understood it. Up should be up, shouldn't it?
On an completely unrelated note, I sometimes flip the image on my moniter upsidedown. Good times.

I invert on both. My first FPS with mouse aiming (duke 3d) was what set me in my ways. I switched back and forth for a bit but for no real reason ended up sticking with inverted. It might be because I played a lot of flight sims at the time.

I invert only if the game has defaulted on inversion.

So in something like COD4 or Rainbow Six, where the default is normal y-axis I won't invert: feels too weird.

In games where the inversion is already there, like piloting choppers in Bad Company or some other titles I can't remember at the moment, I won't change it because I get used to it within the first few minutes of starting the game.
