Poll: Do you judge people by their avatars?

First off, by "avatar" I mean any kind of customizable visual representation of a person. This includes forums like this and videogames like WoW.

I, personally, judge people. I don't mean that I see somebody with an avatar that I dislike, so I dislike them or anything. I mean that it becomes my representation of how I visualize that person. Somebody who has an avatar of some female anime character, for example, will make me see that person as female, no matter what evidence points to the contrary(other than a flat denial). It's a subconscious kind of thing.

It took me quite a while to realize this. I'd been playing WoW on a private server(Excellent way to break the habit, by the way. I'm now WoW-free) and had a few female characters(I'm male). It dawned on me one day while talking to in-game friends that they had no idea I wasn't female. It was actually kind of startling, and I ended up never playing as those characters again.

So what about you guys. Do you judge by avatars? Are you judging me right now?

Well, the avatar a person chooses is what they choose to represent as themselves, so more or less yes. Some people make their avatars their favorite anime, game or movie (Like I've done) and other make it something random (Like Hubilub or Neonbob.)

The avatar is more or less how I see other people in my mind so I guess I do judge people by their avatars.

I don't judge them by it though, just shows me some of their likes and the such.

not usualy but there is one guy who has an anti-obama one and I judge him to be a jerk by that, since its suprisingly wordy for an avatar. If youve seen it then you know it.

Not at all.
As is the case for most of my judgments online, I base my opinion of someone off of what they have to say. If someone has an avatar I really like, yet expresses themselves in a completely douche-filled manner, then they are just as annoying as a like-mannered poster with a horrible avatar.

I will judge sometimes.

For instance if I see a Female Avatar running around half-Naked in a game where they can be well armored wihout resorting to the Arcane Tubetop, then its probably a Dude

As for sites like this, depends on the Avatar. For instance, if they use a Yahtzee Avatar (Or any pre-chhosable Avatar) I will ignore them a little until they get one of their own.

I enjoy looking at them and I usually come up with a strange picture of the person behind the avatar but I dont really judge anyone. I recognize people by it but then again thats what their supposed to do?

Not really, I don't pay much attention to avatars. But I have noticed there are a lot of guys with female anime characters as avatars, its strange.

Yes because they'll never be as cool as Snotnarok!...No I don't judge them by like that, I judge by the content of their posts. Most of the time I'll ignore the idiots who say something about some game being garbage because so and so, but that's about it.

Not usually, no. Doesn't mean I like the avatar (looking at you, Halo Elites!) but I never really judge.

Besides that, I want to see someone judge my avatar on here, then squirm as they realize they can't jump to conclusions about my personality. Ha!

An avatar can tell you something about the person.
For example, if it's a picture of a character from something or other, you can infer that they like said game/TV show/whatever - or at least that character.
No prizes for guessing my favourite TV show. Or my favourite confectionery.

Only thing I judge people on is what they post - even then, that's just the impression I get from it. Doesn't mean I'm right.

Odd, I was reading a Manga and they called the guy with the Loli Fetish a Lolicon, whatever.

I already knew, you mentioned it a week or so ago in a thread, although I had my suspicions before that.

And I have a somewhat odd Fetish myself anyways, so I have little right to point fingers.
