Well considering that I just sung half of it without really paying attention to what I was saying... yeah I guess I know it.
Oh yeah is anyone here from Greece? Aparently the Greek national anthem has like 50-some verses and no one has (offically) memorized it all.

Yeah, I know all the words to my national anthem...
Only because they make us listen to it every week though..
And nah, I don't really partake in patriotism... I guess it was just because I never really found a good reason to...

I'm from the US--I know the first verse of the Star Spangled Banner, but I know there are a few others that are not commonly sung anymore, and I don't know them. I must say that I don't really like it, however--it is difficult to sing, even for talented singers, and in my opinion a national anthem should be the kind of song that all citizens, from the talented to the most tone deaf, can at least sort of follow. But as soon as you hit 'And the rockets red glare!' it is usually agony to listen to if you're singing it in a crowd. I would definitely vote to change it to "The Battlecry of Freedom," an old Civil War song that is much easier to sing but still has a good tune and some relevance.

You want to hear a cool national anthem? Look up the Romanian national anthem--it is so passionate! There is actually a rock version of it on Youtube, and it is pretty righteous--any song that can be rocked is a good candidate for a national anthem, in my opinion!

Partake in patriotism? I try to as much as I can, but what passes for patriotism these days is pretty sickening. Patriotism does NOT mean you vote to allow your country's army to brutalize the populations of other countries. Patriotism does not mean that you support your government without question. Considering that the US was formed from a violent rebellion, it seems strange that patriotism has come to mean loyalty to the government. In my mind, Patriotism means loyalty to the country, not the government. The basic principle that, I think, sums up what the US is supposed to be is this: Do whatever you want so long as you don't infringe on anyone else's freedom to do what they want. There are a few things that are needed to clarify it, but that is pretty much it. All this country is is a group of people who have agreed to live by those few basic principles. Or rather, that is all this country is supposed to be. But since WWII we have started mixing other stuff in there as well, to where I think there is really very little left of the US that was.

Hand on heart, tears on cheek, etc? No way. I think that flag used to be a symbol of this country. Now it is a symbol of its government, and the powerful forces that manipulate that government.

Strong emotions when I sing it? As I said earlier, I don't particularly like the song, so no, I don't get emotional when I sing it. It doesn't really speak to me. It doesn't encompass what I feel it means to be part of this country. And I think it's become symbolic of some pretty bad things.

I do, though it took me about 20 years to learn the middle part. Never been a very big fan of singing it though.

Third reich? No, the whole racist doctrine was proven wrong and is out-dated, I simply learn from all the mistakes and filter the success.
Nah, I didn't mean the nazi ideology, but their methods.

First of all, I know I can't claim that my opinion is the absolute truth. It's just what I think is suitable / necessary to make this earth a better place.
I'm just trying to improve the situation collecting knowledge and using my mind.
Those are simply my ideas of what I think is right. The only thing that can prove me right or wrong would be the progress of history if I have or have not my way. I think you need a certain amount of force to keep the people in line. It's just as simple as that. :)
Then we share different opinions, that's okay. ^^

In terms of political orientation? Hmm, I'm not quite sure. Probably I'd say right as I'm a patriot and some people say I have some strong militaristic / fascist tendencies. But I'm also quite open minded, so don't worry about that. There's not really any political movement I feel dedicated to at the moment (you can trash everything on the right side here in Germany, in my opinion).
Yup, the right side really is trash. So is the left...
Central parties are, in my opinion, the most likeable ones. However, they are still trash.
Hmm....I think my favourite parties are the Piratenpartei and Die Grünen. They seem quite reasonable.

Mu Isamaa, mu õnn ja rõõm,
kui kaunis oled sa.
Ei leia mina iial eal,
siin suure laia ilma peal.
Mis mul nii armas oleks ka,
kui sa mu Isamaa!

I know one of the other 'stanzas' too, but I don't remember which line belongs to which, so I'm not going to add anymore.

I'm not even sure that what I wrote is completely right, word for word.

But it's actually a pretty darn beautiful song, and we had to answer it from heart in our Music class a month or two ago, but I've forgot it already.

Ya I know the Canadian National Anthem we had to do that stuff in French and English every morning in every grade for 12 years. Some versions of it are really good, then again there are some versions of it that make me sick since it sounds like elevator music.

I do know the words.

But blind patriotism is not for me. To be aware that your own country is capable of great wrong and great good--is far better than to just presume that your country does everything right.

As an Australian i'm ashamed to say I know the words to Advance Australia Fair. Not all the words, just the first verse.

It's very un-Australian I know, but I used to think it was "In joyful Australians then let us sing." So at least I got that bit wrong. :)
