It's very . . . adequate. That's about it. You really have to empathize with the protagonist to some extent to enjoy it, I think.

Disliked it.

He likes using the same few phrases over and over again.
Gets a bit annoying, and he should have gotten with that checkers girl, she was well up for it.

But he totally [censored] out.

No, I didn't. The language was weak and repetitive, the character was whiny and monotonous, and quite frankly, I didn't see a story anywhere in there. But then again, I have a problem liking "the classics" everybody says you should like. Maybe I'm unsophisticated, who knows.
One thing I've realized for myself is that just because a book is considered a great piece of literature, it doesn't mean it's entertaining to read.

I fucking despised that book when I had to read it in high school because all you really do is listen to Holden Caulfield talk about stuff he doesn't like. Salinger should have just called it "I'm Holden Caulfield and I Hate Everything". The only fun I got out of it was I kept telling my English teacher I wasn't going to read it because its the book that killed John Lennon. She would get soooooo pissed because then other kids in the class started joining in and saying they weren't going to read it either.
