Poll: Do you like living with roommates or not?

I'm in university right now, just about to finish my 2nd year and I'm living with 2 other guys right now. And fuck me, I can't stand one of them. I do enough bitching about him as is and he's a twat. Ther other one is just kind of annoying, doesn't really shut up. He's a lot better, I actually get along with him and I drink/game with him. He's kinda douchey but I can handle him in small doses.

So far, I think I'm not huge on roommates. It's cool having someone around you can hang out with at any time but I've got friends I don't live with for that. If I lived with some of my best friends, then it'd be awesome! But goddamn as it is right now, I'm not a fan.

Room mates suck. I like my solitude. There is nothing better than being alone in your home, and not having to be considerate of anyone but yourself. I've had one, and never again.

I would encourage anyone that can afford it to fly solo.

By roommates do you mean flatmates, or strictly people sharing your bedroom? Because I don't mind flatmates - evidently - but roommates I've never handled very well.

Either or, I suppose. I generally meant living with anyone in a relatively small house/apartment, but after making the thread it occurred to me that most of my frustration would be dissipated if I had my own room for privacy and that most people probably don't share a single room with anyone besides their SO.

Discounting romantic interests, I know of exactly one person that I didn't mind sharing a room with, and that was my brother. I also suspect that we'd both tolerate it a bit less these days.

Likewise, only a few of the people I've been flatmates with didn't manage to irritate me fairly often.

So, no, I can reasonably say that I am not a fan of sharing a home with others.

I've been sharing an apartment for a little over a year with a 30-something year old person with weekend custody of a 9 year old kid.

For the most part I don't mind it, we keep to ourselves mostly (it's better that way honestly) I have most of what I need in my room and I usually only leave it to use the toilet, shower or fridge but we'll chat a bit. We get irritated by each other's kitchen messes but neither of us really make a fuss when politely asked to clean it up. The guy's son is ANNOYING, but I work weekends and don't have to deal with him all that much, even then, I just hide in my room most of the time.

Generally I'm indifferent to living with a room mate, as long as they're a calm and down-to-earth person.

I don't think I could share a bedroom with anyone (as in permanently), I'm too used to having my own personal space. I do share a flat with my sister though and even then that's pushing it sometimes. But having your own space to "retreat to" is priceless for me.

I'm not much for roommates, since my brother and I had to share a bedroom ever since he was born, and that SUCKED. It was a godsend to finally get our own rooms. Only case I'd do that again is with a girlfriend/wife or whatever. Housemates though? Really depends on the people. I wouldn't go for it with randoms but with close friends I'd give that a chance. Personal space is a must, however.

The doctors made me share a room with someone once and I hated it. There was a time someones snoring would help me sleep, the safety it would make me feel having another person nearby, knowing that if I had some sort of terror in the night I could go to them, but not so much anymore.

I think if you spend a long enough time with anyone you will find a problem. I no longer have to share a room with anyone now though. I prefer it much better now. To be fair, no one would want to share a room with me either, I am a nightmare to bunk with haha.

I'm fine with the idea of roommates, but aside from my boyfriend, I can't stand the people I live with. Noisy, don't pay for the household stuff, rarely clean, and when they do, they might as well have not bothered.

There's also the fun of them almost setting the kitchen on fire several times after deciding to cook something and then leaving for a few hours/forgetting about it completely, buying food for themselves and leaving it out for several nights/leaving it to rot, denying the possibility of there being a mouse in the house in spite of all the food one got to and all the mouse droppings left behind, and not believing there's a mold problem even when the walls are turning black and have caused the paint to peel.

I've had 4 roommates so far.

The first one was a pain in the ass while I was living with him. He later became my best friend when he stopped the "I'm going to do whatever I want" mentality.

The second one was a gamble. We started on each other's nerves, but we got better.

The turd one (Yes) was the worst. She wasn't native from Canada. That didn't bother me. What did was the fact that she used the "culture card" whenever she didn't want to clean, was being rude, played music loudly at 5 AM or left used tampons in the toilet. She always fried everything using my pans. The fire alarm went crazy all the time. For a while, I lied about people making complaints until the actual complaints came in. I could go on, but I'll stop here. The list is too damn ridiculous.

The fourth roommate is the one I have now. He smokes pot and never cleans? I'm kinda annoyed.

In conclusion, 3 bad experiences and 1 good. I don't like it, but it's very expensive living alone.

I've always gone solo. It's a tad more expensive, but I would think the average room-mate would dissaprove of my lounging around nude & covered in whipped cream.
To be serious, I've never really had anyone I trust enough to want to share the same living space with (even with different rooms). I'm not a trusting person, so the idea of living in the same apartement as some stranger freaks me out.

Due to my current living situation I am currently sat here typing this whilst having to listen to "Skater Boy" by Avril Lavigne at excessive volume as the person in the adjacent room has a penchant for listening to really loud music and not giving a shit about absolutely anyone else in the house.

Besides that one issue i do quite like it. It shares responsibility, all of it is not on me and i like that.

My world consists of 3 chicks (who are 3/4 of my best friends) I'd happily share a room/bed with, and basically 7 billion other people I can't really stand for long periods of time. So I answered Hell No.
I just can't tolerate other guys enough to live with them, even if they're like a brother to me.
