A simple poll to gather opinion. I know where I stand on the guy (as in, I cannot stand the guy), but I want to see if the majority of us feel the same way. A quick glance at his episode comments shows a flood of "did not enjoy this." Some go so far as suggest he be canceled (I support that). So where do YOU stand with Jim?

Well the first episode seemed to drag on a bit. Im going to leave it at that.

The second one however really made me believe that its some sort of cross between The Big Picture and Zero Punctuation.

That is, Jim takes the piss out of things that he has an opinion on.

Its not downright revolting, but its something to watch when there is a dry spell of news. Not going to slam him either, I'm sure he could quit anytime he wants.

Couldn't actually get to the end of the one I've semi-watched...

Badly produced, apparently badly rehearsed, badly written, a poor attempt at transferring written bile into convincing spoken bluster.

Sorry. He might have had a good point, but I barely ever buy new games nowadays, so I've very little reference point.

Eh. Vitriolic ranting is everywhere I look these days. I watched the first episode; read: made myself watch it to justify not watching it again, just to make sure there wasn't some hidden gem I was missing or something. I'm already kind of overloaded with negative ranting. This guy's show is definitely not my thing. From the comments I've read, it seems that most people don't like his show very much.

Well, I don't like the show. But it's only been two episodes. I also didn't like 7 of the first 8 Unskippables, almost half of the first season of Unforgotten Realms, the first half of the first season of Doraleous & Associates, and the first 4 episodes of Apocalypse Lane; I gave them all time and I grew to love them all, perhaps I'll grow to enjoy Jimquisition as well. Or perhaps JQ is the next Game Dogs, I Hit it With My Axe, or Kung Fu Grip and I'll never like it. Point is I'm going to give him time.

I've followed Jimquisition for ages over at Destructoid. Jim is an interesting character, but you don't get to see all of what he is just from these Jimquisitions. He's often a troll, creating controversy for the sake of it, and I often disagree with him (such as with his stance of how pre-owned games), but he also often hits the nail on the head.

I think it's quite awful really, and his response to fair criticism is pretty poor too.

Jim Sterling@
@WilliamRLBaker They don't seem to know what they want. At once, I'm bad because I'm like the other shows, but also NOT like them.
Yes Jim, you're bad because you're saying things that have already been said, in a format like other shows here, the main problem being that yours is considerably worse in presentation and structure, less informative, not as funny (even not as funny as extra credits), and poorly constructured arguments that are neither functioning critiques nor biting satire.

TL;DR? His show is awful because it is a poor imitation of what we already have, done worse, with ten times the hubris and swearing.

So much for the Escapist winning those Webby awards, I'd say Jim's show is a pretty good way to negate that kudos.

I think it's ok, but putting it on the escapist was kind of a bad move, it tries to do roughly the same thing as The Big Picture but in a style very slightly more in vain of Zero Punctuation, but the end result is not quite as good as either,

so yeah it's ok, but it looks worse than it is through being overshadowed by better things on the same website in my opinion

EDIT: my point is it might work somewhere else but The Escapist doesn't need it or even really benefit from having it

I think we have quite enough "game people with opinions" shows, what with ZP, Extra Credits, The Big Picture, and so forth. We don't really need another, and Jim's attempts at humor come across as crude and not very clever. Honestly, I tend to agree with him, but that doesn't mean it's entertaining to watch him ramble about nothing much over mspaint scrawlings of Duke Nukem's bollocks.

How about, no more damn shows until we've wrapped up what we've got? Or at least bring back some of the good ones--give A Good Knight's Quest another season, or continue Doraleous and Associates. We already have an entire forum full of opinions; we don't need to be inundated with videos too.

Replied to one of these threads yesterday... Saw this one so I thought I better go see what it's all about....

Short answer? its good. The second ep was quite funny, made some good points. It's not my favorite thing on here but it's a good addition.

I think he should keep making shows. I'll watch them.

My question is... if you can't stand him... WHY OH WHY OH WHY do you concern yourself with it? Don't like it? CLOSE THE WINDOW! then proceed to say to yourself, "Wow, I didn't enjoy that. Meh who cares, let's go watch something I DO enjoy instead and never think about it again."
I ran a search, and didn't see a similar thread. And to answer your question (which could have been less confrontational);

Really, it was horrible. He tried to mimic other, better shows, and like hawki said, even Extra Credits is funnier (lol, the eraser pencil.)

I don't need to expand, you can decide if you like it, but I think it is horrible.

I don't like it much. I think that it would come out a lot better as a written column, but I've got a hunch that it would come across as arrogant and not at all amusing even in text. :p

But this is supposed to be a community, and it's a sign of a bad community when half the population have to ignore the other half.

The fact that the timing of his show surfacing is in tandum with the Escapist winning a few awards for being a good lifestyle website, makes it all the more confusing.

Jim isn't just bad, or wrong, he's obnoxious and basically trolls his own audience.

That is not consistent with this site's ethos, seeing as people are banned or put on probation all the time for paultry little offenses, it seems odd to hire somehow whose main aim is to annoy anyone watching.

There's just no point to it.

It doesn't address anything that hasn't already been addressed before, and it does this in neither an original or entertaining way. I might as well be watching a cardboard box with an angry face drawn on it.

The first one was horrible. The second one was just pretty bad.
The guy appears to be a sexist doucebag. Granted this may be just an image he is projecting online, but it is unpleasant nonetheless. (Note: based on his behaviour in general, including on his Twitter and Destructoid, not just the two videos and columns he did here.)

As opinionated as MovieBob, as abrasive as Yahtzee, but nowhere near amusing as these two tend to be, and not insightful at all. He rambles on for five minutes with a (fictional) fascist flag in the background on a point that can be made in a single sentence, with plenty of dick imagery to further make it clear that this is nothing but an epic trolling effort.

Absolute bottom standard production values as well, although if his show had anything going for it I'd forgive that.

Is this really what the Escapist wants, to turn this place into another guttercrawler like Destructoid or Kotaku?

Is there a reason everything needs like 8 goddamn threads now?

Oh well, no I don't like the show it all, it sucks and I tried, but can't make it the whole way through a whole episode. Waste of space.
