How about you escapist's?
....No Offense.

But you listed only TWO classical musicians.

The other three were ROMANTIC composers.

And BTW, I listen to Hiphop and some Rap does that meke me retarded?
Classical music is in fact several era's.
For instance there is the baroque, classical period music, romantic music and then modern classical music which have composers such as Igor Stravinsky and John Adams.
If I would have said classical-era music then you would have been right but you're not.

I never said that you were retarded, just rap.
Because I think some rappers insult poetry by calling them selves "poets".
*Pinch nose* True.

and on the subject of Rap, It's IS poetry, just a different kind. Urban almost, sure what they saying is wrong ~and stupid~ it is expressing themselves.
Take this verse:

It's time to fight back that's what Huey said
2 shots in the dark now Huey's dead
I got love for my brother but we can never go nowhere
unless we share with each other
We gotta start makin' changes
learn to see me as a brother instead of 2 distant strangers
and that's how it's supposed to be
How can the Devil take a brother if he's close to me?
I'd love to go back to when we played as kids
but things changed, and that's the way it is

is it a rap or a poem?
I have no idea what it is but this is what I consider poetry:
Suddenly the night has grown colder.
Some deity preparing to depart.
Alexandra hoisted on his shoulder,
they slip between the sentries of your heart.

Upheld by the simplicities of pleasure,
they gain the light, they formlessly entwine;
and radiant beyond your widest measure
they fall among the voices and the wine.

lt's not a trick, your senses all deceiving,
a fitful dream the morning will exhaust---
Say goodbye to Alexandra leaving,
Then say goodbye to Alexandra lost.

Even though she sleeps upon your satin.
Even though she wakes you with a kiss.
Do not say the moment was imagined,
Do not stoop to strategies like this.

As someone long prepared for this to happen,
Go firmly to the window. Drink it in.
Exquisite music, Alexandra laughing.
Your first commitments tangible again.

You who had the honor of her evening,
And by that honor had your own restored---
Say goodbye to Alexandra leaving.
Alexandra leaving with her lord.

As someone long prepared for the occasion;
In full command of every plan you wrecked---
Do not choose a coward's explanation
that hides behind the cause and the effect,

You who were bewildered by a meaning,
whose code was broken, crucifix uncrossed---
Say goodbye to Alexandra leaving.
Then say goodbye to Alexandra lost.

Yeah, I do. I find it's the best kind of music at keeping me calm and sane. My favourite is Beethoven but most music of the Romantic era suits me fine. Not big on 20th century classical music though.

When I'm in the mood, yes. I have no favourite composers or anything though, but I'm quite fond of strings and percussion, especially the violin. Examples of both that are well-known to you all:
Okay the second isn't really classical, but bloody hell I love those heavy boom boom booms. It's why I'm such a fan of taiko and the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack.

Which reminds me, here's some classical music from the other side of the world (well, from my side anyway):
I prefer it over Western classical, honestly. I love the power of it. There was a live taiko band on the MCM Expo a few weeks ago, those deep drums vibrating through your entire body, man that feels good.

Nah, I just find it boring. I'm not saying it's bad or anything, but I just find it to be soulless, lacking in any emotion or narrative.
That...surprises me. Some classical pieces are amongst the most emotional laden pieces I've ever heard. It can be bombastic and epic [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AlEvy0fJto&feature=related], so sad, almost fragile [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAuQb_bKI0Q] or haunting, spelling doom [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXX5x2iAKe4&feature=related] . I mean, don't tell me that Chopin's Funeral March doesn't convey a certain burdened, grave feeling.

I listen to classical violin and the like when it's performed by Emilie Autumn.
I'm not opposed to other kinds of classical, but I prefer violin solos.
Anything with a violin or harpsichord.

I love classical music =]
What I listen to depends on what I want to hear then and there.
Nowadays, I mostly listen to Sibelius (and then especially the violin concerto), Rimsky-Korsakov (Scheherazade), Chopin (I really like Revolutionary (10/12)), Rachmaninov (Symphonies and Prelude 23/5)...
..and various other composers and pieces..

...and first post, yay! (Though I've been an avid reader of the site since Zero Punctuation started) =]

Yes. I'm a bit of a dilettante, in that my favorites are famous ones, like the 1812 and Beethoven's Ninth and Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Pachelbel's Canon, but yeah.

I like "modern classical". More of an orchestral mix with modern instruments.

An amazing talk on Classical Music, if you got a good 20 minutes, it's a great watch. [http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/benjamin_zander_on_music_and_passion.html]

I do not listen to classical music on a daily basis, nor is my favorite genre, but I enjoy it. But give me real music any day.

I dont really listen to classical music, but theres theres a fair few peices i enjoy.

But the people that constantly bash rap/hip hop are just fools, yea the stuff on tv and the radio is pure shite, but so is most of the music played on the tv or radio regardless of genre.

Theres lots of good "underground" stuff, far removed from the rubbish on tv.

But then ignore what i've typed, becasue i'm obviously a retard as you've put it.

When I'm driving home from rowing (shhhh).

It's really damn relaxing on the radio on a drive at night (thank you NPR).

I do really love classical music, but to be honest I'm not enough into the genre to name a bunch of composers and the like. I do have plenty of it on my iPod though. Having a play list of Metal, Techno and then Classical is just a fun mix for me.

Yes. A lot. My favorite is scheherazade. Although anything by john williams I consider a classic although it's technically just plain orchestrated music.

The names for the numbers. really elude me. I mean some have paticular names I can remember and if it shows up on the tv caption alot I can name it but like on the radio the names are far too similiar and are named and numbered for there sections it's just impossible for me to remember it
