This thread has been bookmarked! Great job to all for giving me more bands to listen to!

Machinae Supremacy ftw though. Sid metal rules.

Not very often anymore. I used to listen to more of it in the past (still, never a huge fan), but I got over that period. There're now maybe two or three metal bands I listen to when I'm in the mood for silly over the top music. I think most metal is part of a cheap genre that hits the right spot for kids at a certain age. It's like smoking when you're a teen: you feel like a rebel, but it's shit.

And I haven't a clue what all those subgenres are (who cares about them anyway?).

Yes. As black as night, and as often as I can.

On occasion I try some other metal, but I usually circle back to black.

I tend to go for either proggy stuff, techy stuff, or extreme stuff. SYL, Meshuggah, Gojira, Tool, Opeth, Mastodon, etc.

I don't listen to exclusively metal though. Maybe 50% of my music is metal, the rest tends to be some variation on rock, electronic music, rap, classical, even the odd indie group.

Those would be Ozzy and Dio I guess.
So you don't count Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes and Tony Martin?
I don't know who those people are. I can't classify metal and really am not that big into it to begin with. I'll clarify my original post though.

Ian Gillan, was vocalist for the Born Again album. THE Deep Purple singer, The Ian Gillan Band and Gillan. Pretty much an industry legend.
Glenn Hughes, vocalist for the Seventh Star album. Also former Deep Purple and Gary Moore member.
Tony Martin, vocalist for the The Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, TYR, Cross Purposes and Forbidden albums. After Ozzy the longest Black Sabbath vocalist, he was with them longer than Dio.

Yeah I listen to some metal, but I listen to all sorts of rock so I'm not really a metalhead. Used to be really into Avenged Sevenfold when I was in high school, so real metal aficionados probably roll their eyes at my musical tastes

My tastes in music are "anything that sounds good". So, there are actually quite a few metal songs I like to listen to. Though...my personal guilty pleasure is Dethklok.

I do indeed. The down "Jesus" logo is my avatar after all. Death, grind, groove, and sludge are my favorite sub genres but I try to enjoy as much metal as I can. Some tech death and bands that go outta their way to be a complex as possible turn me off from their music sometimes. Just because you are good doesn't mean you sound good.

I'm mostly a fan of Nu-metal (don't kill me), so I wouldn't call myself a metalhead exactly, because I listen to a variety of stuff. Also everything on the Devil May Cry 3 and 4 Soundtrack, go check that stuff out.

40+ years old and still a die-hard metalhead, mostly classic metal and power metal these days. I'm also a photographer in my local metal scene. Here's me testing before a promo shoot not long ago.

Metal makes up most of my Winamp. including, but not all;
Apocalyptica (I see them as metal)
Black Label Society
The Cavalera Conspiracy
Children of Bodom
Coal Chamber
Dethklok (Yes I know Metalocalypse is a Parody of metal, but some of their songs are so damn good)
Devildriver
Dimmu Borgir
Gojira (My personal favourite band, seeing them live topped Dimmu Borgir for me)
In Flames
Marilyn Manson
Megadeth
Meshuggah
Metallica (of course)
Pantera
Rosetta (Metal for Astronauts, as they describe themselves, and deserves a link. A mix of Ambiance and Metal)

When I comes to music, I don't limit myself. If it sounds good to me, I'll listen to it.
Don't care what genre it is. As long as its good music.

But when it comes to metal, I just love it, any and all.
Metal is what got me into music, more specifically the first two Slipknot albums (which are brutal and if you say they're not you're incorrect) and Metallica's Ride the Lightning where my first CD purchases ever.

Here is a list of some of my favorite bands (random order):

Amon Amarth (seeing them this year)
The Devin Townsend Project(and all DT's related works)
Meshuggah
Rammstein
Korn
Tool
Nihilism Incarnate
SOAD
DevilDriver
Dimmu Borgir
Fear Hate Destroy
Behemoth
Dream Theater

If I keep typing I'll be here all day because there are few metal bands or subgenre I don't like.

I have no idea where the various types start or end or even what the separation between rock and metal is. But since Iron Maiden was mentioned in the original post I'll go with yes.

Yup, metalhead here. Mainly thrash such as Pantera and Lamb of God, but I also get into the slower, heavy stuff. Not quite grind, but more of an 80's style - Bolt Thrower is an excellent example. Can't forget Apocalyptica, blurring the lines of my two favourite genres - classical and metal.

I'm a metalhead.

I listen to:

Thrash
Power
Death
Melodic
Symphonic
Industrial
Goth
Pirate
Viking
Crossover
Heavy
Speed
Black

And a multitude of mixtures of those genres.

Heck, I'm even going to Bloodstock this year (On Thursday, so pretty pumped at the moment)
