I mostly play music when either playing Minecraft (I find that game's music a tad too calm for my tastes at times) or League of Legends (and crank up Manowar and other stuff like that - helps me focus)

When I do, it's because I need a way to keep time, so I listen to an entire album while I play and get off when it's done. Generally I do this for stuff like Minecraft or New Vegas, where I'm going to be wandering around and not have a clear one-way goal.

Unless I'm in vent or need to hear what people are saying, I always listen to music when playing online shooters and such. Though I almost never listen to music in a single player game unless it is built in music like in GTA or if its a game where I don't really need to pay attention to the story or anything, like Doom.

Mainly sandbox games like Prototype. And usually I listen to Disturbed when playing that particular game, or any other sandbox titles that say: you're super strong. go nuts.

Yeah, mostly if I'm playing online because I don't really need to hear the sound for most of the games and others (Left 4 Dead) have closed captioning anyway. I also listen to it if I'm grinding in an RPG or just generally doing something that isn't story-related (even if the story kinda sucks, gotta watch those cutscenes with no distractions lol).

I mostly listen to the radio, even though I can only get one station on my stereo ;-;. Listening to Britney Spears' new song, Hold It Against Me, while shootin' some zombies is always fun.

If it's a game with a focus on story then i tend not to listen to anything. If it's anything else then i do

<3 Disturbed. Thats the kind of music I'd listen to for the likes of fighters and shooters

it's kinda funny. the only game I really play with music is COD. a good soundtrack gets the kill count pumping

It depends on the game and the music within the game.

Some games, like most 4X and RTS, tend to have OST that are pretty much 'generic' or 'loop too much'.

So, I listen to my own stuff or watch a movie/TV show at the same time.

I got my iPhone earbud in my ear with my Turtle Beaches over them, works I suppose.

Nothing like achy breaky heart coming on after I get owned in Black Ops...

Only on multiplayer, and even then it's scarce. Most games I play have their own music with the perfect atmosphere. Playing random rock/trance ruins it. And even then my kind of music is of the "relaxing" variety...

Generally not.

If I ever do, it's because there is no music in the game, no dialogue, and no important sounds I have to pay attention to.

Like most people have said I'll play some AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Disturbed, Linkin Park, The Lonely Island, Jon Lajoie, Charlie Daniels Band, or Cage the Elephant, depending on my mood, but only if the game isn't dialogue heavy.

I'm the total opposite of you; I'll listen to music playing an RPG or RTS, where sound doesn't eman all that much, as opposed to an FPS, where sound, such as footsteps, are very important.

Sometimes I can pull off having Windows Media Player running songs and a game at the same time so that I can kill zombies and listen to System of a Down.. But lately that hasn't been the case in Left 4 Dead, and I don't play Minecraft for longer than 15 minutes at a time so it doesn't matter..

I prefer not to have music playing though.

It's rare enough for me to truthfully say no. I would rather listen to the game's soundtrack and other audio over my own music.
