This might not foster much of a discussion, but do you check yourself in the mirror every day?

I ask because I don't, more often than not, and I have only just been told this is odd. Risky too, considering how often the wife draws on my face whilst I sleep.

What are your habits?

Also, mirrors are weird - discuss.

Well yeah, to brush my hair. I need to know it doesn't look like a total bird's nest.

My bathroom has a giant mirror covering like half of one wall. I'd have to make a concerted effort to not look at myself at least once.

Besides, if nothing else I usually look after brushing my teeth to make sure there aren't any bits of breakfast still stuck in there.

Also when combing my hair. When I have hair. Which I usually just buzzcut these days.

EDIT: Also, come to think of it, when shaving. Because how does one shave without looking at oneself? Hell, I'm already prone to missing spots just under my chin, imagine the horror that could result if I tried it without using a mirror.

I try not to, but I don't really have much choice in the matter. Sometimes I get Astro Boy hair and that shit needs to be dealt with before I get into college. I have to at least pretend to be trying; you know how it is with colleges. Some days I feel like I should just draw a rough outline of an acceptable human head shape in the mirror and attack myself with a comb until I fit inside it.

Not really. I usually have a solid three hours before I go into work from when I wake up and don't start getting ready until the last minute. But I usually do check myself out to make sure my hair doesn't look too bad and no noticeable flakes from my psoriasis can be seen before I hop out the door.

On my day off, no.

For work and because I work in retail, yeah I have too. I am just not the type to look at my on reflection every minute with my front camera, Windows, etc.

No.
An ancient Gypsy witch placed a curse on me the day I was born. If I ever look into a mirror or reflective surface for longer than a few seconds my eyes start to bleed and terrible ghosts and abominations start to form in the surface. A little longer and I've been told they take full shape and are free to leave the mirror and will never stop hunting me.

'tis a cursed life I lead.

Yes, to brush my hair, and to shave.

Did not for a long time, because I thought it ugly. And you don't necessarily need to do it, without long hair and such. Even then you don't necessarily need to see.

Yes... mostly to imagine what I could have looked like in another dimension...

Other than that, I mostly check [out] my butt more than anything... Someone on the Escapist knows why... ;p

I usually check myself once a day or so. Mostly when I'm brushing my teeth, since I have a mirror right above my sink. And when I'm shaving of course. But that's about it. I have long hair, but don't really need a mirror to know it's combed properly. For some reason I can always feel when it's messy or tangled in any way.

My bathroom mirror is in my field of view on the way to the shower. I have no choice.

If I'm not going outside that day, not really. But if I am, I always need to make sure I don't look like I neglect my hair. Even when walking outside I sometimes look at the reflections on windows and parked cars (without anyone seeing me) to see if the wind messed me up or something. Call me vain, but I like my hair.

Am generally incredibly self-conscious, so am always afraid of automatically mutating into a worse horror overnight. The mirror is disliked, even hated for its honesty. But a necessary evil to evalute the required adjustments for moulding back to human form.

Depends what you mean by "morning". I don't when I wake up and mill around for a while preparing to go to work. I would have to look in the mirror when put my contact lenses on, but I try to do that at least an hour after I wake up[footnote]my eyes tend to be rather dry otherwise, and it's a bit more uncomfortable[/footnote], most times I end up putting them on when I go to work. When I'm not wearing contacts (usually the weekends) I can spend the entire day without looking at myself in a mirror. Unless I have to shave, however, I tend to do that in the evenings.

So, technically - yes, I would look at myself in the mirror most mornings. But on the other hand, if it's supposed to be "soon after you wake up", then no - either right before I go to work, or when I actually go there.

Yes, it's required for the grooming process. If I don't, especially after getting out of the shower, I have, as my wife puts it Super Sayan hair. Still working on how to make it turn gold on command though

Of course. Besides grooming and brushing teeth, I have to do my hair and wink at myself.

I did once discover a weird phenomenon whilst looking in a particular bathroom mirror. If I stood in a specific spot and looked directly into my own face, my eyes in the reflection were obscured by mysterious blotches - kind of like the ones you get from staring at a really bright light. I got a couple of other people to stand in the same place and they saw it too in their own reflections, though I have never experienced the effect again with any other mirror. Has anyone ever had this?
