You cared about them, but you can't remember their names? :)

About %90 of the time I ended up with that hispanic chick as my buddy, I kept trying to get different friends but it was almost always her!

OP: I care about them just as I would any character in a book or movie, I just want to do what happens to them or what they do next. So I guess so.

EDIT: And I do remember one occasion in FC2 where I had to out that french lady out of her misery when she was wounded and beyond help. I felt pretty sad after that. :(

If my team in game is well-characterized - and sometimes even if it isn't - this is inevitable. I wouldn't describe them as "friends", but rather as... i don't know... more like, well, squadmates. They help me kick ass, so i have to mind their well-being.

Aw, I loved Carlos... He and Shandi were the two Saints that I liked..
Peirce was OK.
Eh, it seems like they tried to make us hate him. Kinda worked the other way for me, I ended up liking him.

I actually took them down, I thought that same thing to myself. I'm tired and I was just trying to give examples of characters I like, so I just threw down the guys from FarCry, despite the fact that they were all useless pieces 'O junk.

Really? I thought they were quite helpful, plus they gave you one free 'Get out of death' card. They're like those pink faries in Zelda...if the faries had AK-47s. :D

HA! Yea, they were OK in terms of reviving me and helping me fight, but the AI was atrocious.

Your name reminds me, I also really liked Atlas until he... Well, you know.
I also like Tenenbaum. She was the only trustworthy person in that whole damn place.

The Weighted Companion Cube is my only true love. It sang me lovely songs and brought me cake.

I actually felt SO horrible during some of the scenes and endings in Heavy Rain. Especially with Ethan, and somewhat with Madison.

I found that, somehow, by the end of Heavy Rain, Norman Jayden had become my favourite character. I don't know whether it was his adorable accent (WE GAWTTA FIND THA ORIGAAMI KILLA), his unfortunate flaws, or the fact that he's basically Bruce Wayne + Sherlock Holmes, but by the ending I got, I felt very sad for him.

Norman stopped his drug use, but it allowed the ARI to impact his brain when the little toy tanks ran over his desk. I felt like I failed in keeping him healthy, and giving him that perfect 'ever after' like Ethan and Madison got.

Also, I cried a little at Elena's misleading death in Uncharted 2, and did everything to help Nate escape the trainwreck without harm coming to him.

Some others:
Agro (Shadow of the Colossus)
Malon, Zelda, and Saria (Ocarina of Time)
Max Payne and Mona

And plenty others, sure.

I loved all the characters, insanity and all. Andrew Ryan, Sander Cohen, Dr.Steinman, Atlas, even Fontaine towards the end with his little "I MADE YOU!" speech after you beat him.

I like to keep the characters I control alive. I'm responsible for em, damnit. Not sure if its deep or anything, but I get kinda pissed when my people go down. I do despise some of the characters I have to work with, and I guess it does sometimes show.

Thing is, if I can help a character, I"m gonna damn well help!

I agree completely on this, Nahman is definately my favorite chaaraactaa. And I was also disappointed I kept him from getting a happy ending.

As for forming attachments to game characters, it's kind of like forming an attachment to an online friend, or one of those weird tamagachi creatures that die if you don't feed it every 3 hours.

My favorite game friends are: Tali, Allistair, [sub]Shepard[/sub]Wrex, HK47,
Actually most every Bioware party. Everyone since KotOR, Mass Effect 2's ragtag bunch has definately been my favorite yet. Another reason Bioware RPGs are my favorite, I just don't get such a sense of connection to the characters in any other RPG.

Heavy Rain was incredibly good at developing that sense too, Nahman is my favorite character, but he just barely beats out the rest of the four main characters.

I have way too many favorite characters to not form attachments. I love Tali, Bastila, Mission, Morrigan, Leliana, Shepard, Cecil, Kain, and many others(some of them are "love" like a brother, others are love like I wish they were real so they can deny me for not being good enough.)

So yeah, I care for my peeps.

Yes, the same way I do for characters in books, plays, and movies. They're all done the same so they should have the same reaction.

Of course. Not so much the characters I create, but the characters who have something there I can get attached to. I've reiterated my love for Colette of Tales of Symphonia and Saber of Fate/Stay Night numerous times on these forums, and I may have mentioned Kohaku of Tsukihime once or twice.

That said, it's something of a disadvantage at times. Basically, I've been playing Kana: Little Sister for the past week or so. This is a very, very painful game to get immersed in, especially if you get attached to the title character, since most of your choices greatly affect her life.

I eventually gave my permission. "Eventually" as in "it took me ten minutes of soul-searching." I don't know yet if it had any effect, but I have my rusty flaying knife at the ready, just in case.
