Alot of current gen games(well at least console games) don't have any cheat codes. Do you miss the lack of cheat codes nowadays.

Not at all. I didn't become as good at games as I am today by using them.

Broken poll is broken :(

OT: Yeah I do miss them, there are hardly any cheats these days and usually they don't allow you to get achievements if you do have them on. Most of them are fairly dull anyway, Dead Space is the only one I can think of with cheats but it was only for a few extra things, not that big of a deal

Sort of. They were good for when I just wanted to screw around in a game, but a lot of people tend to abuse them.

I used to use them a lot when I was younger, mainly for things that would make me giggle, such as big head mode or what have you. These days, it rarely occurs to me that they even exist.

Being older sucks.

Well actually mine was for unlockables.....http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.263660-Does-anyone-miss-Unlockables-in-games#9981164

But you can kinda see a similarity between topics. I was actually kidding, I don't think you ripped me off or anything and I hope that your thread does better than mine. Apparently my entire premise was flawed but I think your point is more valid. I just had a knee jerk reaction because my original idea for the thread was "Do you miss unlockables/cheats"

They're are a lot less common though(at least on consoles).
The achievement thing then I'm guessing. Microsoft & Sony pressuring the developers not to put them in the game.
Why would they tell devs not to add cheats? Couldn't you have achievements/trophies and cheat codes.

Depends on the game and the cheat.
30 men for Contra? Sure, but after a while I learned to play so well that I only needed the three.

Invincibility on GTA. It was awesome. Same for Duke Nukem and Doom. Its fun to play around with, but I like a challenge too.

Cheat codes were my life back in the day. The lack of codes has helped me to become a better gamer in general, however many times I'll search for codes. Mostly codes that makes games funny to play ie getting a girl in lingerie in True Crime: Streets of LA

Many games like GTA IV disable achievements/trophies when using cheat codes.

you do realize cheat codes are optional?
I fail to see how the option of use plays into this, but I will answer you anyway.

Yes, I realize. And you asked if I missed them. Had I used them, then maybe I would miss them. But, without use, there is no attachment to them.

Ergo: No. I don't miss them one bit.

They were fun to use after you beat the game or if you really needed something in a pinch. I do miss them, yes. Remembering the cheats back in the good 'ole metroid days, miss those days sometimes.

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start.

Just for the hell of it, I always try it when I have a new game. I do kind of miss them...
