I know I do. Nothing let me blow off some steam like turning on infinite ammo and invincibility and just going to town on some 1st level mooks with final level weapons.

cheats were almost needed back in the day. see, back then the games were actually HARD. now-days all we have are these push over titles. ergo: cheat codes not needed.

Yeah. I do miss them. Especially in a Sandbox game when you want to try something REALLY insane, you needed the cheats to get all the equipment required.
Also, Saints Row 2 with Evil Cars and Low Gravity on leads to fits of laughter.

No. They took all the challenge out of the game. I do think they are still acceptable, but I just don't like using them.

Cheat codes can do more then just make a game easier. Plus, if you play on the harder difficulties on certain games,(IE demon souls and COD:WAW) You will be wishing you had those cheat codes.

Yes and no.

Some good old cheatcodes were hilarious and made the game a lot more enjoyable the second playthough; being able to just examine the world you're playing in without a challege.

On the other hand though; when I used to get to a point which I couldn't pass, I caved in and used cheat codes; then kinda ruined the game for myself.

Some games I do miss them for. I never was a fan of God mode in any game, but nail gun mode in Hitman was hilarious. I never really used cheat codes as a cheat, per se. They never advanced my game when I did use them, they were more of a dick around tool. I remember when GTA3 first came out... My cousin and I would go "hobo smashing" with the baseball bat. Hilarious times ensued, but they got even better when we learned "hold all shoulder buttons, left down right up left down right up, X."

Now with the whole achievement system, any time you enter one, it invalids the achievement for the game.

I do miss cheat codes, once I beat the game I like to screw around especially on sandbox games.

But that is why I prefer PC games, things can always be hacked and changed.

Cheat codes still exist, we just call it hax nowadays.
Theres a major difference between a cheat code and a hack.
How so? You got your infinite health hax, your infinite ammo hax, your infinite hax hax. Such similarity to cheats. I mean they are both considered cheating.

Just for the hell of it, I always try it when I have a new game. I do kind of miss them...
They should have "You can now slowly regain health whenever you hide behind a chest high wall" pop up when you do that cheat for certain FPS games that have that mechanic.

They were always optional, if someone wanted to ruin their game then they were free to do so.
And when they are done right(hard to access) people will avoid them until it's really needed.

Not really. They were fun to screw around and when I was 3 and sucked at games, but they aren't necessary for me to enjoy the game.

I hate that because I can't play many games on my PC, I can't really do cheats. I just like the option of after completing the game a few times, I can just muck around pwning everything and experimenting with the game physics.

Developers put cheat codes in on purpose. And infinite hax hax? What kind of hack is that?

maybe YOU wished for cheat codes... i, on the other hand, found WaW's hardest difficulty laughably weak.
