Simply put my belief on personal armament is that I feel that it's my god (and law) given right to go down shooting if I believe in something (or disagree with something) enough. Don't misunderstand, I'm obviously not in jail as I don't go swaggering around pointing
guns at everyone or whatever.
Part of it's personal defense, but that defense also applies against the goverment as well as criminals. As a law abiding citizen if I ever wind up getting into trouble with the law to the point where someone tries to arrest me (which I will point out has not happened) chances are it's going to be a sign that something is really borked somewhere, and I am going to make it as difficult, and painful as possible for them to dig me out.
Some will call me psycho, others will understand exactly where I'm coming from. I see guns as being one of the things that keep us free. As long as we're armed, we're not TOTALLY at anyone's mercy, whether it be criminals, or even our own goverment. Without a couple of weapons (firearms included) around my residence I wouldn't feel comfortable. No need to tote them around (I don't have a concealed carry liscence), but it's good to know it's around if I need it.
Ironically, I find it disturbing to see anti-gun sentiment on the rise at the same time some polls are saying that over half the population is supporting Socialism over Capitolism. It won't happen overnight, but I feel almost like I'm watching a train wreck in slow motion. The grass on the other side of the pasture always being greener, and people not realizing that once some things are done, it's not like we can ever go back.
