Urban Dead was pretty fun when I used to play it. I remember a top down zombie shooter that I really enjoyed as well, but I can't remember the name of it. It was browser based too, but a little more graphically intensive than most since it was done in Unity3D.

Well, I suppose Runescape counts as browser-based, but it doesn't share that much in common with other browser-based games nowadays. It's getting complex enough that it's more like a client-based MMO than a simple browser-based game.

ah both of these back in the day...

but honestly not anymore, at all. Why?

my huge amount of games i have paid for, they are all calling out to me and i love every single one of them, so i'll dedicate my time to them more so than any other time absorbing game

I play them when someone shows me a game, but I rarely, if ever, look for them myself. I forget about browser games sometimes, and it's probably because they're mostly somewhat addicting, so I just avoid them.

I do play Runescape from time to time (once a month or less), simply to troll on some 13 years. Immature of me? Yes. It's just funny how they react sometimes.

Not only do I play them, I design/make them for a living.

But I already played those kind of games long before I started working for the company.
Though I am a bit surprised that the poll has so high percentage yes votes.

I always thought that real gamers don?t really liked these kind of game (though we do develop some hard and long games for this group).
Guess I?ll keep following this thread because it would be interesting for me to see how many others click yes on the poll
I'm actually surprised too. The gamers I know don't think too highly of them. Good to see so many game suggestions in this thread though, might try a few out later.

I've tried some free ones, but they seem to be rather unreliable. Maybe it's because my Internet connection sucks, but I find trying to play them more trouble than it's worth.

When I was a wee lad in my early gaming years I played runescape but I don't anymore because I learned about good games.

I enjoy flash games, but I'm guessing that's not what you mean by "browser-based."

From my understanding Evony has such a high player count because they count everyone who has ever registered, even if they no longer play. It's almost as if a nation included all of their deceased in their population count.

I once spent a lot of time playing dice wars (http://www.gamedesign.jp/flash/dice/dice.html).

I have no idea why.

But I've never played one of those heavily advertised social media / mmo type games
I'll tell you why, it's because that game is pretty much Risk but more colourful, with wacky sounds, a randomly generated map and it doesn't make brains hurt!

OP: Why yes I do indeed, there this one Tetris Arena type thing that I frequent (sadly, it appears to be nearly filled with many annoying 10 year-olds) and I often play some Strategy games on Kongregate such as Bug War: Recolonized, Warlords 2, Mud and Blood 2 and 1066.

Ahhh yes, I know the feeling of joy when you hear complaints just because you stole the arrows others had used to kill a giant sewer Rat. ^_^ Made Archery a lot less expensive too...
