I usually don't play demos for games that I know that I'm getting, but for games that you can't get a physical copy of I will try the demo if there is one.

I usually give most demos and trials of arcade games a go see if there is something interesting to buy, and I like trying new games lots and lots even if I can't afford to buy them all.

Demos, trails and betas make up nearly 25-30% of my gaming time really. I love to test out new things, I love to see what the upcoming games will look like and it let's me actually see if there is anything interesting that might have slipped under the radar.
Often times I will even play demos/previews of games I'm not interested in, just to see what are they about and if by chance they have some ideas/mechanics that may be nice addition to other games.

Guess my love for demos comes from good old times, when games were rare, far between and especially in my country, pain to buy, while many of the monthly magazines included 1-2 CDs packed full of various demos I could play one after another.

Sadly in recent years demos either don't come at all, come post release or are just very poorly done which pains me a lot. I generally don't buy games at release unless I'm sure I'll enjoy them, so the less the dev/publisher let's me see before the product hits the shelves the lower the chance I will give them my money.

Not a big demo fan because I generally know what I am going to like. For the few games that are on the middling interest fence I sometimes will. The cross-promo thing got me to play through Kingdoms of Amalur's demo for the ME3 stuff and was entertaining enough that I'd consider KoA itself at some point.

If it is for something I know I'm going to get -- I usually don't because I'll have already played through a section of the game and just have to repeat it in the full release.

A couple of times they have kept me from buying things so have saved me some money (perhaps). Because one demo that I absolutely HATED is for one of my most beloved games ever-- X-com: UFO Defense. The demo was a Terror Site that you got thrown into with the worst weapons in the game an no explanation. Sure, there was probably a .txt file explaining the controls, but who in their right mind wanted to wade through that? Lucky for me all the gamers and gaming press convinced me to give it another shot and it was instantly one of the best titles I've ever experienced. So a Demo may not really represent the game in full.

If I'm on the fence about buying it then yeah, I got Bayonetta, Amalur and am getting Binary Domain on the strength of their demos. If I'm certain I'll get it or not then there's no point.

I usually don't, but my brother convinced me to play the Mass Effect 3 demo, and I decided I'd just give it a short try.

Some demos i play literally months after the actual game comes out because the demo delivers the EXACT same experience i would if i played the full game.

For example, FIFA 12. I played the demo as Arsenal vs. Random, then rented the full game....realized its almost exactly the same in terms of gameplay mechanics, graphics and presentation, and promptly returned FIFA 12 game rental.

The same thing happened with Fight Night Champions, as i was only interested in playing with Ali, Tyson , and Paquiao ANYWAY.

The only thing that could get me to pay for games that do this is online multiplay-What? Origin, you say? 10 dollars to play online?! Oh-nevermind, guess that's just 2 gigabytes of data that'll have to remain on my HD...

I would play the demo for every game before buying it, but they are to rare. A demo is a great way to know if a game will run on your pc and trailers are not good at showing gameplay.
