I've had a RuneScape account since 2001 (I still rock the Bunny Ears and Scythe, unfortunately I wasn't aware of previous holiday drops). I've gone through occasional bursts of playing it frequently, usually lasting a month or so, the last being over a year ago. I voted "No, but I used to", though I'll probably pick it up again whenever I feel like it or have the time.

if they make it a f2p game i wull start playing again.
It has been F2P since 1999, membership is optional.
yeah but the things that are availebel in the f2p section are a smal fraction of the game. it's like you're playing a demo
It kinda *is* a demo. If they gave all the content away for free, how the hell would they run and maintain the servers needed to allow however many hundreds of thousands of people play it?

The money has to come from somewhere, and I had no problem paying the £3.20 a month it cost.

Did play it, became member for a while, eventually realised how bored I was playing it, and stopped. I'm pretty sure I have around 2 mil in the bank (at least, I think, I actually have no idea) that is, if I can remember my password.

I used to play it. Alot. Got a quite high level too, 100+ or something. I refused to say I was quitting, because I'd spent so long on it I didn't want to consign all that time (a good few years, btw) to non existence.

Still, I gradually stopped playing it. I cancelled my membership and forgot about it. Then a few months ago I decided to give it a try again. I was F2P (obviously), but I was pleased that when I logged into the clan chat channel I saw people I remembered, and they remembered me.

But... too much had changed. Many of the friends I had made over the years had stopped too. There was a ton of new items, places and a couple of new skills. I just felt overwhelmed.

I still have nostalgia though. Maybe one day I'll go back on it.

I tried it for a few days, but quickly became bored of it.

Part of what turned me off was its oft-hailed but misleading claim of being a completely "free" MMORPG. Sure you can create an account and play for free...but then you realize that in order to get the best gear you have to be a paying member. It would have been nice if I knew that going in.

I did play it with a friend for a while but when he quit it didn't seem fun any more..

I tried playing it F2P for a while because I figured if I payed $10 more I could just play WoW and I prefer that game..

It's a strange game because for the most part you can't group with people .. you just sort of solo all the time doing tasks that can take you like 20,000 hours to finish training..

*F2P has no questing so the only thing to do is grind skill levels. Your character auto attacks for you so there is very little player interaction, you just kind of click on something and watch it play the game for you..

I see how it can be fun to some people and addicting but.. it has never seem worthwhile to me and believe me I have tried... I have some 3-4 accounts floating around with 10+ skills at 50-70 range.. /sigh we really need a modern Browser MMO.

Hopefully Stellar Dawn (MechScape) will get finished someday soon...

*By "no questing" I mean, beyond beginner quests it doesn't really motivate you to level a skill to 99 to continue questing..

I made an account.... six years(?) ago? Played for about a week, got bored, never went back.

Because it was rubbish.

My cousin introduced it to me a bit before my 13th birthday when I spent a couple nights at his house and he had me sell stuff... Back before the GE, world 1, typing like a crazy fool. I watched him do construction, too. It caught my attention.

I still play from time to time, though not on my main account, since it's so packed with members' items that I can't really do anything. I signed up on my 13th birthday, got members about 6 months after that, and played for about a year solid... Devius is my main character (used to be known as Pinkfurryone because meh I couldn't think of a name and it didn't have numbers), Emil Tudio or The Art of 0 are my other accounts I play. One's just a new guy I threw together for the hell of it and the other is my skiller.

It's coming up on my 5th anniversary of making my account. I'm glad they got rid of the trade restrictions, since I want to give some items to a few friends of mine who decided they wanted to try it out.

I used to play a fair bit. All I did was quest, the only grinding I ever did was out of necessity so I could do more quests. I still occasionally log on and play for a week and get bored again. The quests were great though, much better then any other MMO in my opinion, non of this "Kill x amount of wolves and bring me their pancreas'", it was so much more complicated.

Not a fan of the new (I say new, they're 2 or 3 years old now) skills i.e. construction, summoning etc. They over complicate an otherwise very leveling scheme.

I played it back in what Americans would identify as elementary school up until middle school, then I sorta grew out of it.

what lvl are you?
Uh, like... 63? I think? I haven't bothered going that much for combat just yet cause I only started playing again 4 weeks ago. My attack is 60, strength 51 and defense 64 (taking that one to 70 first, then str to 70 and finally def). I enjoy the economic part of the game the most, making money and finding out clever ways to make your gold pile bigger ^^.

Proud 'Scaper here. I still stick around mostly for the quests (which are incredible; the skills are too grindy for me) and for the forums, which are full of awesome people. Lots of tight-knit communities there.

I loved Runescape a few years ago. I got to lvl 60 without a membership, and I remember asking my mom to set me up with one. But then, I was introduced to Call of Duty and Team Fortress 2, so i dropped the game. I do go one a few times a year to check out new quests though.

I played it back when I was 10 or so. I stopped playing when I got bored of it and found games that I enjoyed more.

Oh, the memories...

Yeah, I played it like 10 years ago, was a member, did pretty much nothing but fish for lobbies and mine coal...and then I realized I was paying money to fish and mine pixels.

Still pretty decent for a game, especially for the time period when it first came out. You could do a lot worse. Hell, I'd play it over most of the WoW-clones that are around these days if I absolutely felt like I had to play some kind of MMO.

I got properly hooked on Runescape, but I was only a little kid so if I died and lost all my stuff, I got really upset :/ and then I realised "I'm spending way too much time in this game, and it's not worth the stress" so I quit. Now I play WoW which is obviously much better :p

(this was like when I was ten)
