It really depends on the type of cake and the type of pie involved.

Homemade sweet Black Raspberry Pie wins over all other foods. However, that particular breed of pie is very hard to come by - I have never had a non home-made version even come close. And the effort to find and pick enough berries to make a pie out of is hours and hours of how, bug-infested work.

On the other hand, the (almost) flour-less chocolate cake at the grocery store is multi-orgasmic chocolate bliss for 3 dollars per slice.

Which do I prefer? The pie.

Which can I purchase in the next ten minutes for a mere three dollars? The cake.

Which wins? I don't know... and now I'm hungry. Damn you, OP! Damn you!

generally, pie. i live in the US, where cake has copious frosting, which i don't like.

i do, however, like poundcake and cheesecake.

Hmmm, tough choice. While I love me some warm apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, cake is just so tasty and moist. Yup, I'll have to go with cake.

Can't beat a good steak and onion pie. However I'm assuming you mean the sweet variety, so in this case, cake wins out.

Cheesecake is cake. All other arguments are invalid.

I prefer plainer cake as well. Icing is too obnoxious.

I say pie based purely upon the fact that most Cakes inevitably make you thirsty as a result of eating them. Eating a lot of pie just makes you want less pie.
