Of course, it depends on the style of game. Assassin'S Creed 2 is an exceptional game, that utilizes third person very effectively. (Dead Space should receive an award for how effectively third person is used.) Likewise, games like Portal and Modern Warfare 2 work so well with first person that it's nigh impossible to imagine them in any other format. I prefer third person, on the basis that first person works well with putting the player in the characters shoes; well, that is until you realize that you are a floating pair of arms, sometimes with a head. (Mirror's Edge, and a few other games have let you see the characters torso and legs, and that makes the games so much better for it. Half Life 2 was great, but nothing annoyed me more than the fact that a ladder was nothing more an antigravity field, which let you float up until it ended.) It all really depends on the game though. My two favorites on this platform would be Assassin'S Creed 2 and Uncharted 2, (Heavy Rain a very close runner-up) so at the moment Third Person is more suited to me. However, I don't think gamers have yet seen what first person can do. Mirror's Edge was a little taster, and I think that First Person can still evolve.
