It occurred to me there are various formats people like playing their J-RPGs or W-RPGs on, and I consider my DS to be my regular J-RPG fix, but my PS3 has a few J-RPGs I play thanks to the new Sega Mega Drive Ulimate Collection which has at least 6 J-RPGs on it, plus Disgaea 3 and Valkyria Chronicles. PC has Fallout 1 and 2 which I play occasionally, as well as Morrowind. But what is the best platform for RPGS, of any sort?

There could be an argument that handheld J-RPGs do what they do on less graphical power, but since many play J-RPGs for the story, handheld J-RPGs are good for busy lifestyled people like myself. On the other hand, a console RPG could give you a decent story AND good graphics to help tell the story with. Hmm. PC gets a lot of decent old school Western RPGs (like Fallout and Baldur's Gate) you can play on it, which can be acquired on the cheap nowadays.

My question is, which playing device is preferable for your RPG playing experience?

Only RPGs, only PC.
I only just recently got Fallout 3 and Oblivion for my PC, and I've gotta say, it's... different. Not bad, mind you, but definitely different. It'd probably go better if my computer could process them a little faster...

My console is my gaming hub, save for RTS's which only work if on the PC in my opinion, so yes all my W-RPGs(since I don't own any J-RPG's) are played on my 360

PC is basically what I do everything on so... preferred device.

And all the JRPGs I've seen look like copy-pasta's of another one with the exact same whiney 13 year old God protagonist with an impractically large sword only in a different costume. Not only that but they all seem to have TERRIBLE English voice acting too so I only ever play WRPGs because at least the people who make WRPGs hire people who speak English as a first language to do the voice acting, which helps A LOT for RPGs imo. At least for somebody speaking English as a first language, but at least we have the common sense to hire Japanese voice actors for the Japanese voice acting, or Spanish for Spanish most of the time..

I'm an RTS guy anyway so I've only got a few other games from other genres I actually like playing.

Got to be for the consoles. Handhelds can be used, but the problem is we all know how long it can take to find a save point. Not useful when your only using it on a 10 minute journey.

it depends on the RPG, I find the PC better for more imersive RPG's. However RPG's that do not require alot of thought and are mostly about the story, I love to set up in my room on a console, curl up in bed with my controller and play the night away.

I prefer mine on consoles. Every computer I come into contact with turns to slow and unrecognizable shit, graphics wise. Handhelds aren't bad either, just a little TOO addictive, you know? Tactics was a struggle to put down on ps1, now on psp it is almost impossible. I am afraid to buy other rpgs because of the addictiveness.=\ DAMN YOU SQUARE!!!!!!! And when KH:BBS comes out, Ill have to say, DAMN YOU SQUARE AND DISNEY!!!!!!!

Option 4: Pen and Paper. (Nerd alert, I know)

Otherwise PC is the way to go for this fanboy.

Depends on what I'm looking for at a given moment (story and immersion or complexity and character construction), but usually not handhelds.

It depends on the game.

Honestly, Fire Emblem or a new Shining Force on a handheld would be pretty nice. :)

I don't discriminate; I'll play any RPG for any platform by any company. I've played every Ultima, every Wizardry, every Might & Magic, every Dragon Quest, every Final Fantasy, etc. If it's got HP, experience points, and numbers that go up, I'll play it.

PC - Better interface because you have more buttons for hotkeys, and you have mods.

PC, then Handheld.

PCs because they are often deep and complicated, with awesome controls and interface.

Handheld, because I can take them wherever I want and just play for some time...
