Depends, in games like Smash Bros, multiplayer is fun as hell, but in LittleBigPlanet...its just stupid because they grab onto you or smack you in the face...

Thenagain, the Genres my other family members is interested in is so thin, they'd probally not have interest in the game at all. (Compare a JRPG Strategy game like Disgaea to a Platformer, can be any, maybe even New Super Mario Bros. Wii)

I'm surprised. As I clicked on "Single Player" I expected to be in a tiny minority.
really? that would be a sad day

I'm single player because my internet isnt up to scratch and im a sucker for a good story

I did try Dead space 2 multiplayer and it was fun as hell but that kind of thing just seems to get old after a while, mabye if a game is more multiplayer focused its better but still

As single player isn't enough to get me to shell out $65 nowadays(with the exception of Just Cause 2), any game I buy absolutely MUST have some form of online multiplayer or co-op. With singleplayer, you know what's coming after 1 or 2 playthroughs. With online multiplayer, you never know what's going to happen. Are you going to win, lose, have a tie, steamroll the enemy team, be steamrolled yourself, have a battle of epic proportions or even have a tank land on you because 4 people launched it from across the map with 18 anti-tank mines.

To me, there's more replay value in multiplayer than there is in singleplayer.
your obviously not into story then, and I supose by that logic you don't have to buy as many games

though the really good single player games do have replay value

Im gonna just jump right on the bandwagon and say it differs entirely game-to-game.

I love COD4 and BFBC2 online; far more than the campaign modes (well, except that one mission in COD4 Ghillies in the mist)
Yet some of my favourite games of all time are single-player affairs (Chrono Trigger, Morrowind, Portal- the list goes on)

TL:DR No, I don't prefer single or multiplayer.

It depends a whole lot on the game. But I prefer single-player a lot. CS:S being the only multiplayer game that I've played a ridiculous amount.

I'd play more multiplayer but thats mainly because I'm waiting for something else to come out.

Nothing rips me out of immersion like other human beings. Single-player every time.

Until Diablo 3, at least. Less about immersion and more about adding.

Single player. Of course, nothing beats a well made campaign. Co-op is ok though. The multiplayer hype is a menace that just makes developers lazy.

Mostly multi, games which let me test my brain and brawl vs another human being are my favorite.

Hmm...a lot of multiplayer hate in here.

Mostly singleplayer but a good multiplayer game with the right people can be absolutely awesome. Unfortunely many of the people online are immature and takes the game too seriously.

I like singleplayer. In a game with Multiplayer, you can mess around online a bit and get your Head shot off in most cases.
Singleplayer games don't have to be balanced so much, which leaves more time for the actual game and after you beat the game, you can fuck around in it experimanting with stuff that will break the game. Which is, in my Opinion, more fun then playing with People that are way better then you because they played the game for longer then you live or other People who actively work to find out things that have the sole purpose of ruining your game experience.

So i'd rather try and enchant my armor in Oblivion so i can get to 100% chameleon and be totally invisible then play against People in Call of Duty who will shoot my Head off or are just as stupid as the bots i played with an hour before.

In Fallout 3, i made a gun that shoots Dogs. Which explode in a nuclear fireball on impact.

In Mass effect, i spawned a Mako on the Citadel and drove around, which was fun since i could leave the mako where it was on the Alien planets because i can run faster.

In Call of Duty i got shot quite early quite often and was called a n00b.

Yeah, i'll go back to new vegas and make me some Armor that enables me to run fast enough to outrun rockets.

Depends on the game really. Most of the time I play one player game. I only play two player games if its good or my friends really want to play them.

Id say it depends on the game.
Like BFBC2 and SSF4 its all about the Multiplayer.
But most other games are mainly made for the single player, and rightly so. Therefore the single player is better.

I love single player, and think most games benefit from having a multiplayer mode. I'll always favor single player more.
