What is this, the 70's? Some people refer to others as "Scrubs" on Xbox live. Ok, thank you for the decades old reference, you are very hip.
XBL is for nerds. ;)
Well, at least now I know for sure! Does it make me less nerdy to ask for you to refer to me as "Technologically savy?"
No not at all, but only if you refer to me as Ma'am ;D

"NERD = Not even remotely dorky" -Professor J. Frink

I like nerd more, to me it conjures images of a computer addict who is good in math. The word geek brings me an image of an overweight role-player.

Personally, I'd go with enginerd.

Nerd. It's a more accurate description of myself. Although I should go with "athletic nerd" since pounding turf in football/track/martial arts allows me that title.

Nerds are simply smart geeks, and i dont consider geekiness bad. Therefore geekiness just is and nerd is a compliment

I consider geek to be linked primarily to the geeky interests of comics, AD&D, games, cultish films. Generally speaking pretty normal but with socially frowned upon interests.

Nerd I consider describing having glasses, being overly techie and desperate to show it, probably smart but way too proud of it (not that intelligence is a bad thing).

I think geek has kind of been brought over into the mainstream now, it's not really a bad thing to be described as a bit 'geeky' what with the whole 'geek-chic' thing kicking off.

Geek is what cute girls who play Nintendo Wii all the time with their bespeckled girlfriends, and therefore has a cuter, more positive connotation. They wouldn't call themselves nerds in their Facebook blurb. therefore I'm a geek. Though really my full title would be Mr Jebus rockponce-geek-emo-sexy Saves

The "emo" bit disturbs me. You dont call yourself an emo if you are. Just let people figure it out.

I don't really consider myself emo, I just get called that by people who are jealous of my fantastic hair.

I'm neither.

Not smart enough to be a nerd and I'm not electronically gifted enough to be a geek.

I don't care what the word is at all. I care slightly more, though, about what the person means by it, since everyone seems to have a different understanding of the terms.

If a person says, "You're just a stupid !" Then it's offensive. But if someone were to say, "Yeah, but you're ier than him." Then it's just a word.

They're synonyms. Just think, there's the "jock." That's one word, and it can be used either offensively or not. The group has two words (or even three if you include "dork") that mean the same thing, and can both (or all) be used either offensively or not.

This logic works with most any noun used to refer to a person. "You're just one of those dumb theoretical physicists! Haha, geek!" See, we've used both "theoretical physicist" and "geek," both offensively.

And everyone here is probably a gamer. And anyone here is just a dumb gamer.

Just add adjectives and you've got some mean soup cookin'! You could lessen it slightly, too, by taking out the adjectives and keeping the 'just' part. So you could have "You're just a nerd, though," and it would remain offensive.

I don't really care, the people refer to me using those terms don't do so negatively, so I'm perfectly okay with them.

If, however, someone uses them viciously, they will get a piece of my mind.

Geek, definately. Although my favourite label anyone has ever given me has to be technohippie.

Why do people assume that being a geek is a negative thing?
It's because most geeks are inherently annoying, so annoying that most other geeks don't like them.
