I don't have a preference. Sometimes a male character makes more sense, sometimes it's a female character. For example, I think that in Assassin's Creed it would have been way better if Desmond's character was a woman. I don't know why, I just think it would flow better.

If I?m making my own character I usually make a female charter unless there is a specific reason not too (like their VO or customization options suck) though I might make a male character if I?m doing multiple playthroughs.
If its game where your picking out of multiple fixed character I go with whoever looks the most interesting to me.

No real preferencce, it changes from game to game. Voice acting if present is the main deciding factor and then second to that is how it affects the plot or character interactions...don't look at me like that you know too many games have better romance subplots if the protagonist is a particular gender. If the voice acting is equal (or silent protagonist scenario) and the effect on plot and character interactions give the same/equivilent results then I'll flip a coin (and do the other on the next playthrough)

It depends on which looks better. In some games the females look better in other games the males look better.

I'm not sure what this says about me but the vast majority of the Champions I own and play in LoL are female. I didn't even notice until a while ago when it just dawned on me. I think the female art designs are just generally more interesting when it comes to LoL...

Why?

To be fair to them, Ezreal singlehandedly makes up for the male side of things. He's a true display of manliness!

Funnily enough I was a fan of MShep in the Mass Effect games. I found that FShep was always sounding slightly pissed in all of her voiceovers. Perfect for a Renegade playthough I will admit but MShep has more varity, especially in ME3 where the guy practically unleashed pure badass voice acting talent onto the game.

In games where you are forced into a specific gender I don't really care. Your character is your character.

Depends upon the game, but for those where you have the choice of being male or female the male lines are usually written better.

I don't really have a preference for either, I've played plenty of both. Probably more male though, as I'm a male. I never really create a character based on myself so I'm free to make up whatever I want.

there are some games unimaginable without a female lead. like tomb raider. i dont think tomb raider would be that fun if its lead was a male.. ewww..
and i agree with a lot of you that if you gotta be watching backside of a character it rather be a female one.. lol
and one argument i dont find convincing is some of you saying i dont prefer playing female character coz am a male..

Female. All the time. Generally a tall, slim, bald woman.

The reason. Well I tell people it's because I'd rather have to stare at a lady's ass jiggling pleasingly around for 8+ hours but the real reason is my distaste for Y-chromosomes and my belief that women are superior to men... Just a bit, but still...

I alternate depending on the game. Sometimes a female character just feels right in the game. Femshep for example, no matter her alignment. I can not play a maleshep character anymore.

an assassin Nord character in skyrim? definetely female. Male Nords are about as subtle as a nuke. Argonian? definetely male, the female model looks atrocious.

mount and blade warband? definetely female because it is significantly easier to rule the world as a woman than a man in that game. If you dont want to form your own faction and instead be the very best knight you can be for X country, then male.

Female usually. I won't deny it's a basic fanservice thing most of the time. If I'm going to be spending 40 - 80 hours of my time staring at a character (usualy from behind) I'd like it to e something I'm attracted to.

Sometimes it's a power level / type (borderlands) thing. Occasionally a voice acting thing. Jennifer Hale is Sheppard to me, and I much prefered the female voice in Dragon age 2.

I pretty much always play as female characters when given the choice. The simple reason being tits 'n' ass.

i'm male and i choose male if given a choice, but i have no issues playing as female if there isn't a choice for that class or game. i had no problem playing a sorceress or assassin in Diablo 2 and Lilith or Samus Aran or Seung Mina.

i have tried to play female character in City of Heroes a couple of times, but i can't get attached to the character, as much as i prefer looking at the female form.

I go with a character archetype. I have a lot of them, being a long-time dungeon master... some are male, some are female, some are interchangeable.

I guess that's my way of saying I have no preference here. My characters are about 50-50.

I don't really mind, tbh. If I have a choice I'll pick whichever character I think looks the most stylish.

One thing, tho: as a guy, I did find it a bit weird being followed around by my boyfriend in Aquaria.

i can't find a poll option that fits me when it comes to single player games but in mmo's always male so i will just choose male in the poll

Eh, I just alternate on a whim.

Never had any particular problem playing as a chick, nor did I ever feel any particular need to play as a guy.
what he said unless it is an mmo.
in the case of a roleplaying character in single player games it's what i feel that fits the character. if both genders can fit the character then i randomly choose the gender

Female nowadays, mostly because I am one. In the past, I didn't usually have that choice (first gen. Pokemon, Harvest moon) and didn't really care either, but coming off of a Fallout3/Mass effect/elder scrolls streak I gotta say it's really weird to hear myself being referred to as a 'he' in Dishonored.

It just feels more natural to be called by the right grammatical person.
