If i did question them i'd have to question myself too and i don't really need that on yet another aspect of my life.

I do tend to pick a male character in RPGs though because i feel it enhances my immersion. And the few times i've bothered to play an MMO i've played as a guy because i tried playing a female character one and noticed just how... weird, some people are towards women in MMOs, and once you explain that you're really a dude then suddenly you're the one who's weird or creepy.

However in SP games or any sort of fighting game i don't really care either way. If the playstyles are different, as they ususally are, then i'll want to try out both to get the most out of a game.

No. I am one of those people.
Just giving you heads up - you only quoted without adding anything there.

OT: I still wander what we're questioning people on. I think I'll just go on and assume anybody who is playing a game that has any sort of choice has issues - play as the same gender as you - you're secretly gay (unless it's not a secret, in which case it's weird). Play as the opposite gender and you have gender issues (or if you're gay, you're secretly straight). Play as undead, you're into necrophilia. Play as a different race, you're into weirder shit. Play a class you clearly aren't, you're an escapist (ha-ha) and you have issues with reality. Play something that's the same as you and you're a mindless drone that lacks imagination.

See, now everybody has issues. And we don't even need to question what they are. We're all on the same boat.
I was just playing a game where I was a passenger on a plane, but im not a passenger on a plane. Does this mean I have delusions of altitude?
Obviously you like getting high. So you're a drug addict. Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery, dude. Even if you're not taking drugs, you might be a secret drug addict. I think you are worthy of being questioned.

can't think of a game with a character creation engine where I made just one character... I tend to go with twists on stock character concepts from DMing, so I pretty much go 50-50 male-female... so no, no questions raised.

I do notice if people make a habit of playing opposite their own gender, but I generally don't question it.

I've asked my brother this, because he sometimes plays female characters on WoW.

He says he chooses female when he needs a character with more speed. Like if he's playing a rogue or spellcaster. Female models tend to be slimmer, and more agile (or so he says).

I kinda agree with him. I always play female characters on MMO's 'cause I tend to run away from things a lot more. It's a lot easier to run when you're not bulked down with huge muscles and shoulders.

I only question those that act like a girl. If it's a guy pretending to be a girl, it's a weirdo, if it's a girl, I ask for their skype and pics.

No, since I do that myself.
Seems like a rather odd thing for someone to question about.

I don't question it if there are stats involved or if it's story related. There's nothing strange about opting for a personality you prefer (regardless of gender), a character with favourable movesets or game centred on a protagonist of the opposite gender makes perfect sense to me.

I do question it (quietly) when someone plays a character of the opposite gender in a game where gender only really effects appearance (most MMOs). It's not inherently bad, but I'm generally not a fan of it. But hey, I like to think that the avatar is in some way meant to represent the player, so in most cases playing the opposite gender goes against that idea. I personally find it very jarring.

I usually play as a female on my second playthrough of RPGs, mainly to see if there are some differences. Usually there aren't any, but some games like Fallout NV make it very interesting.

No, don't really care, to be honest.

For me, I pick whatever gender I feel best fits the character I have in mind for the game.

Also one thing I've noticed, at least in The Old Republic, is that when I'm using a female character people are a bit more talkative with me. Reminds me of when my friends were talking about this very subject. One questioned why the other used females in WoW. His response was that people were more helpful when you're using a female.

Hm...

Sometimes.

Let me explain my reasoning:
- First is obvious attention whoring, doesn't happen in all games though
- Advantages

In Combat Arms both the male and female hitboxes were the same. But it's kinda hard to hit an invisible hitbox, isn't it? So female characters had slimmer and slightly shorter bodies which made them harder to aim at, even if you had the same chances of hitting them.

It's just a matter of hitting what you can't see.

Actually, my avatar creation gets alot more questions. My alts are almost always tall, stocky white males. In most situations I just make myself in MMO form and people find that strange, most just want a nice ass and possibly jiggle physics for the avatar they'll be looking at for the next 200+ hours.

No, I'm not a twat and mind my own business.

Yes, that's a needlessly hostile way to put it, but I can't for the life of me see what the problem is or how it negatively affect anyone in any way.

The only time I exclusively play male characters is in MMOs. That character is my avatar in that world, and whilst I have no problems with people who play the opposite sex, I prefer not to.

Offline (something like skyrim for example) I don't care. I regularly mix it up to see how it affects the game world.

I don't see why I or anyone else would be bothered about the gender of your character. I find people that are bothered by it rather weird, to be honest. It's like being bothered about people playing characters with a different hair color. Rather silly, if you ask me.

No, and it's none of my business to know why a guy would want to play as a female character.

Maybe there's a difference in character gender builds that I'm not aware of, who knows? Besides, I really can't knock it since there were some games that didn't have options like that and I had to play as a dude when I'm not.

I question people that don't.
I prefer taking a different role than real life. So I am almost never human nor male. I don't see the point in being something you already are when you have the choice to be something else.

I play both genders, it usually depends on aesthetics. In Skyrim I played a Male. In Warcraft my main is a male, with my 2 alts being females. In pokemon I play girls... In DC Online I played a girl, in Terraria I made a male (when the option presented itself)

I don't think there's anything confusing about it. Sometimes I like to look at a nice looking guy when I'm playing instead of listening to the over exaggerated whines and 'oofs' of my own gender as she's hit by whatever nemesis the game presents, or the girls just get shafted as eye candy with terrible armor designs...

But, at the same time sometime I like feeling that it's 'me' playing.

Both sides of the coin apply to me.

There's nothing confusing, anyone confused needs to delve deeper and take the plunge.
