Poll: Do you read the book first or watch the movie?

If I have an oportunity to (like, if I even knew the book was based off a movie, or I have the time/patience to actually read it), I like reading the book first.

The book is almost always better (not ALWAYS, but almost)

If a movie comes out of a book I've read, then I'll probably go and see it. And if I watch a movie that's adapted from a book, I'll try and read the book afterwards.

If I'm planning to do both, I read the book first, then see the movie.

However when I see a movie I don't always have the urge to read the book it's based on, so in that case I see the movie first and don't read the book at all.

I know what you mean. Once I have seen the film, I can't be arsed with the book (normally, I did enjoy ... Electric Sheep even after watching Blade Runner). It's like reading a book after you've read the Cliff Notes. What's the point?!

Generally, if I know that a film of a great book is coming out, I'll get the book and read it. I actually think it aids my enjoyment of the film unless the film is pap like Time Line which could have been sooo good.

Finished Shantaram recently which is in production and really enjoyed that.

If there is a film, I'll watch the film instead of reading the book. I'm not gonna lie and pretend to be a super-intellectual type who sits above all the lazy film goers with my powerful imagination. I just prefer having a visible and audible experience, it gets me more interested and things don't go over the top of my head.

Don't get me wrong, I love to read. I mainly read fantasy, sci-fi and popular science. It's just, some times I can get through whole chapters without realizing I'm not actually paying attention to what I'm reading.

It is never really consistent with me. If I had to choose it would be the movie first, but I would watch the movie then read the book then rewatch the movie.
