Sometimes. I used too always, but my last three games had there manuals totally ignored. I think that trend will continue.

I find them fun to read. Especially the more expansive ones, like RTS manuals (especially Age of Empires 2/3).

Yes I do. My brother is a massive console hog so I generally don't get to play my games right when I get home from EB, so I read the manual to kill time.

Every once in a while, yeah. If i remember some action that I can't figure out how I did, I'll look it up.

depends on the type of game, if its an fps, then whats to know really?
RPGs get more of a look-in as the manuals often have helpful clues and tips.

In the car/on the bus/on the train on the way home from the store, or while loading the game. :D

Well, it depends on if I'm buying or renting. If I'm renting it won't even have a manual, but if I'm buying I'll always read it before I play.

Yes, I usually read the manual. I always try to read them, so I know of any useful tidbits that might be contained within, like how to excecute the specials. With PC games, that often have rather thick manuals, I just skim them and read about the things in the particular game that are new to me. But I do like to read them, maybe just because I like to know small helpful details I might not know about otherwise.

Occasionally if I am in the car after buying it or something. I don't need the manual, they teach you everything in the game nowadays.

I used to read them, but manuals are getting skimpier and skimpier on details, they used to have a brief rundown of the story, an overview of controls, special moves, how to defeat certain enemies, what certain power-ups etc did, now they barely have anything.

The Historical anecdotes were entertaining.
I read during the (short since my new rig arrived) loading screens, but that is negated by the berevity of current game manuals. I like manuals-they filter the illiterate from cyberspace
(although what a non-reader will do on the net is a mystery)

It's always the first thing I do. Most manuals are boring black and white dealies, but some are very cool and have neat facts about weapons and characters and such.

No, that's usually what the first five minutes of the game are for. I am actually suprised games even come with a paper manuel still, they could just put all it's content onto the game itself.

I used to. Some of the old gamer manuals were really good. They add pictures, vivid descriptions of characters and creatures in the game, and were just an enjoyable little read before actually entering the game.

Now most instruction manuals are bland and do nothing more than tell you the controls and briefly explain how to play. Most games have in-game tutorials, so instruction manuals have been neglected even more.

For some games, like one I really want to play and enjoy straight away. Sequels especially, sometimes the controls have changed, sometimes new elements have been added, I must be ready for them.
