Poll: Do you read the Gamer's Manual?

I still read game manuals and old strategy guides I have.

I always read the manual before I even start the game, sometimes they're very interesting, like the Shadow of the Colossus one.

They can be helpful but sometimes are just full of laughs, with joke names in the credits and whatnot.

yeah I pretty much always do...I guess it's partly to build up my excitement to play the game

They used to be pretty interesting; helped give you a feel for the story and basic control layout, showed the weapons/enemies/characters and their backstories, made you feel like you were getting a little extra bank-for-your-buck, and they had that 'new' game smell.

Nowadays they're usually pointless. Oblivion's and a few others are worth looking at, but now now.

-EDIT- I was referring to console manuals in my original post; as someone pointed out, computer games can have quite extensive ones. I still read Age of King's for fun every now and then.

Yes, I usually read the manual. I always try to read them, so I know of any useful tidbits that might be contained within, like how to excecute the specials. With PC games, that often have rather thick manuals, I just skim them and read about the things in the particular game that are new to me. But I do like to read them, maybe just because I like to know small helpful details I might not know about otherwise.

The WoW game manual is like a frickin book.

Sometimes. I rent most of my games at a place that dosen't package the manual with the rental games, so usually I have to pray that everything is explained in game. If it's not, then see my opening statement.

I think they usually do nowadays. But I picked up my brother's old copy of King's Quest 6, and this one section of the game that wouldn't let you progress unless you unlocked this one easy as shit fucking puzzle just had to be in some bullshit language that you could only find in the manual that in turn wasn't found for another year or so.

Now THAT's bullocks.

Yeah, I do actually. Last one I read was Prototype's, which was like 9 pages long. It pretty much said "Here's how you move. Now here's how you kill people. The end." lol

I usually just leave it in the case so I can go back and read a certain part if I cant figure it out in-game.

Saves me from having to asking a lot of @#$%^&* questions.

Gamers should really read the manual more.

I always look it through regardless. There's often handy info in there, and even though stuff like movement might be cake for anybody who'se gamed for longer than a month, there might still be something new in the manual.

If the games good you are having too much fun to need it if it blows or the car/bus ride is long than you might read the manual.

Usually. On PC games I usually read the manual while installing. Consoles I'm less likely to read them.
