I only read the manual for PC games, just to pass the time while it's installing though.

I used to read the manuals up until the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube generation because it's now an unwritten rule to include an obligatory tutorial level with every damn game.

Never needed too because I can just figure out games... The only time I remember last reading one was when my friend said he believes Halo Wars' combat doesn't run "rock paper scissors" style.

(vehicles beats infantry, infantry beats aircraft, aircraft beats vehicles)

Obviously he's wrong and I used the manual to prove it. Didn't mean to get so uptight there he's just usually right on most things... dickhead! :D

If my sister drags me for a trip to the mall if I get a game while I'm there I usually pull out the manual to learn about the game while she shops. Or if it's a game Im really anticipating once I get it I read the manual before turning on the console, almost like a ritual.

I do, but only if I can't play the game right away.
Usually there's a 40minute bus ride home, so then I tend to read the manual.

Yes I do, it's a part of the whole new game ritual. Most of the time it's usefull as well, o how many times didn't I spam the trade channel in WoW "RTFM!!!!" I mean, it's not so hard. But sometimes I just want to get going, it's not like I didn't know what to do when I bought CoD4 or Halo 3, pretty straightforward stuff.

As a former corporate network tech, RTFM has long been a part of my life (I hate cubicle drones), so yes, I do follow my own advice, even with games.

Occasionally. It really depends on the game: a lot of RPGs (Morrowind, for example) have complex stat systems that, given my propensity towards self-built classes, I need to know so that my class is a good one. Or Spore and Civilization, I read the manual because I looked at it and it was huge. If a game requires a (nearly literal) book to be packaged with it, I'm reading the damn book.

The only manuals i read are ones with details on the characters and story, like the lost odyssey manual.

I generally don't, as the tutorials in the game usually tell you all you need to know.

Usually, yes, since they often have fun details about the game itself, tips from the developers, or are just plain interesting. Plus it's something to do on the bus home from the game store when they've run out of copies of the Metro (free UK newspaper)...

i still read really old manuals for games i havens played in years. ive got them all in a bookshelf in my room (i find that the boxes arent exactly the best place to keep them, they slide out too easily).

i don't know why. boredom i suppose.

I mostly play RTSs. Sometimes, reading through the lists of units is even better than actually playing the game...
What? Why are you looking at me like that?

Only the manual of some PC games with old-fashioned copy protection. Most other games either have got an in-game tutorial and/or are easy to figure out.
