I do talk to my cat, usually when I come home from school, give it food, let it in and out and pet it. But that's just smalltalk.

I talk to my cats. a lot...but it is only because they talk to me first. No I am not crazy. My cats are Maine Coons and that breed makes very unusual sounds, chirping and stuff. They also respond verbally if you talk to them, just not in human language. Maybe I am a little crazy...

Sometimes. I don't just sit there and tell them about my day, I'm more like Will Smith in I am Legend.

I only speak to my cat when annoyed, like when he is standing on the table, which he is not allowed, I say something around the lines of "fucking cat, get of the table" put I bought a nerf gun, and now I shoot it with darts everytime it does something wrong, or when I am bored.

sometimes when really proud of myself and when I am alone I say something like "wow, Bertus (my cat's name) did you see that, it was awesome"

I do, mainly to show affection. All of my dogs are intelligent rescues, including a strange Chiuhanna (sp?) hybrid who knows 17+ human words and a three-legged Jack Russel puppy mill mother rescue.

The other is a butterscotch-colored collie, who like collies is an intelligent doofus.

i have a turtle and since it cant make any sounds nor does it seems to react to sounds, im starting to think turtles are deaf, i do still say stuff like "dinners served" and "WHAT THE FUCK!!! STOP SHITTING ALL OVER MY FLOORS!" but i wouldn't really call that talking whit it.

btw. the reason i bought a turtle was to not clean up after its accidents and such, but apparently turtles can shit twice as much as a dog.

Yes, but only simple things, like commands, or yelling at them (rarely), or asking if they want to go out/on a walk.

Exactly.

"Who's a good dog? You are! Yes, you are!" etc.

I used to talk to my dog all the time. Mostly because he just stares back at you, making him a good listener. There were several key words that triggered a reaction from him, but they were all related to food or going out for a walk.

Besides commands and praising/punishment I don't talk to my dog in any meaningful way (I never really understood the whole 'baby talk to your pets' thing), I do have meaningful discussions with my old stick insect.
