So do you think Australians ride kangaroos? Or is it just a made up story? And this is just one of many prejudices that people associate with societies today. What other stereotypes can you think of that are related to societes and cultures?

Not a chance, that would seriously hurt the balls.
Not at all. One rides the giant grey kangaroos. They're 8ft tall and the females have enough space in the pouch for one adult.

As all Australians are aware, kangaroos are a natural enemy of the hoop snake. Hoop snakes make a habit of preying on young joeys so mature kangaroos will jump on and kill any of these dangerous predators they find. Needless to say if you're in the highlands and you're not in a Toyota Hilux a kangaroo is the safest means of travel.

Alas the giant grey is no match for the drop bear...

Um, I live in Melbourne.

We ride them EVERYWHERE. It's insane...sometimes when you crash into another kangaroo you have to let them box it out because they're so pissed at each other. The city is even worse.
I lol'd.
I would just like to tell you, Australia brought one of my favourite bands to life, ever.
Thankyou. xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Band name?
Parkway Drive

OH MY GOD

I thought you were gonna say something stereotypical like AC/DC or Cold Chisel.

But Parkway FUCKING DRIVE.
Absolutely AMAZING BAND. Been a fan of them for years...saw them live and nearly got killed :p

I recommend Amity Affliction as well...
Nah none of that boring old stuff :p

Yeah I adore them, seeing them again in may, along with Architects, The Devil Wears Prada and Bring Me The Horizon.

Yeah Ive heard them before, I need to buy some of their stuff!

I really think all the people who said "yes" were just being funny. OK, a significant portion of them. Aren't nerd supposed to be intelligent?

I was always under the impression that you guys rode around on those giant, Shelob-sized spiders of yours.
Shelob sized spiders - and hobbits for that matter - come from New Zealand not Australia (Although Australia's constitution does state that our kiwi cousins can become part of the Federated Commonwealth of Australia any time they like!)

I know. I am pretty sure everyone knows this is a factual occurrence.

Of course they do. It's as obvious as us Swedes having polar bears roaming the streets and all Americans being fat and stupid.

Yeah, we use them a lot over here, especially for kids heading to school.

When you're older an Emu is far cooler though.

When I went to Australia I had to take the kangaroo to the hotel. Better than a taxi.
Really? because last time i rode one it made me spill my coffee! Spilled it all over the little bugger too, serves him right. Then he threw me off and we got into a kick-boxing match over it. I still have the scars.

who else voted yes just because they wished it were true?

anyway, i wouldnt say riding kangaroo's was a stereotype, its just a complete cultural misunderstanding... like scottish people running around hunting for haggis.

Of course you guys do.You even color code them.A yellow one is a schoolbus kangaroo, and black ones are taxi kangaroos.I'm not sure about the other colors, but I'm sure one of you Aussies can clue us in.
I think the best part is child safety. While an adult can ride the kangaroo, their kids can ride in the pouch.
Don't get me started on SUV sized kangaroos though, those things have attitude problems and pollute like there's no tomorrow.
No no no...yellow are taxis although the black and white roos make fine taxis as well.

I must say though SUV kangaroos don't create nearly enough emissions compared to those SUV sheep the New Zealanders ride everywhere!
