dante was a badass stylish demon hunter, this kid isnt what we like about dante he seems to be chaneling kratos more then dante with to much focus on brutality then style and speed.
what im saying is this, if they yust made him a new charackter set in the DMC universe i wouldn't mind it.

I stated this in another thread talking about similiar things. Dante needed the rehall and the reboot. He needed a new art direction and a change in his look. Thing is Dante was becoming very unDante. You had Nero who looked a little to much like Dante.
Dante's "iconic look" became less iconic as you started adding in Vergil and Nero. He needed this kind of change and rehall. This makeover.
This is Nero

He kind of awfully looks like Dante.

Dante lost what made him Dante. This is a much needed change. Dante's iconic look isn't so iconic when Nero looks like Dante a little to much.

Dante needs this. It may not be what you're familiar with. But sadly Dante isn't Dante any more.

Funny story about DmC. This morning a friend of my brother told me it was petty to be hating a game based on a characters design. I then pointed out how he constantly goes on about disliking JRPGS for having "gay" and "emo" looking characters. Of course he then went on about JRPG gameplay faults how he is totally justified while still trivializing all my DmC concerns, gameplay or otherwise, as "you're just mad he doesn't have white hair anymore".
Contrary to popular belief aesthetic actually DOES mean something. And this aesthetic sucks ASS

..Oh, other DMC... ..yeh I think I'd still rather see the Delorean than Devil May Cry actually.

I have noticed that people will hate a game (based on its name alone) on this site if it's not what they expect/want.

For some reason they feel insulted that a group of people will try to make a different game instead of the same thing year after year.

I suggest less DMC elements, more Bayonetta elements.
How come that game looks like dragon age 2 with dark creepy Jericho looking monsters?

It seriously looks bad.

I have never been a fan of DMC, I don't like hack and slashers but most of all (I can't remember which one) everytime he swung his sword he did A laugh "Ha" "HA" "HA!" that was a 3 hit combo.

Ok now, I am a huge Devil May Cry fan. I love the series, I love Dante, Virgil, Trish, Lady, Nero etc.....However, when I saw the trailer for the DMC origin story, I was a little more than just peeved. Yes, I had my time of ranting about how much of a mistake this was. :p Yet after only a week, I found myself rewatching the trailer(the first one), and absolutely loving it. Right now, I am very excited about the new DMC. I honestly want to see the new direction its taking. Besides, I don't want to bag a game that isn't even out yet. (If its good then yippee for us, if its bad THEN we can all send it to the pits of hell. :)

Now tell me, what is it about the new DMC that you hate most?
Is there anything you do like about the new DMC?

I don't want to be too restrictive with the responses but please try to keep the "Dantes appearence" rants to a minimal. I've heard enough rants about the white hair. Also please, no immature fanboy/girl backlash, try to keep your reasons legitemate. Not just something like "Dante looks gay."
I actually wrote an open letter to Capcom and Ninja Theory about this back when this was a reboot.
http://shirokurou.blogspot.com/2010/09/open-letter-to-ninja-theory-and-capcom.html
But hey now it's no longer a reboot (although it still is)
I honestly loathe the new design... Not just Dante, everything in the game looks like ti was stolen from Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Nier or Shadows of the Damned. Looking at the game what adjectives come to mind? Grim, dark, gritty... Yeah they do. But never once "Stylish".
Even Dante was silver-haired and looking classic, but the game overall still had this drowning tone and style.
Ninja Theory just didn't get it. I've seen interviews with them. They don't get it not one bit. They said that the first DMC "took things that were underground" and made them popular. Really? Where? So now they are supposedly saying that this game is also "taking the underground thing"
And seriously. As I wrote in the letter. They know the game will be inferior to the usual DMC (or just different if they are lucky) so they are trying to distance themselves as much as they can from the previous games to avoid comparisons.

It's funny how Marvel vs Capcom understood that the fans want DMC3 Dante, while the main Capcom doesn't.

Honestly, I'm boycotting this game.

Dante?

Dante?!

Oh no Dante! What did they do to you!? Your not the original badarse that you once were.

Dante you were ageing so well...you were arrogant, flamboyant, and full of awesome. You had style and grace and were such a unique character. You hand a distinctive style in your combat...we knew it was you when you fought the crazy demons.

..and now...

...now you look...normal, scrawny, and weird. Your fighting is stilted and jerky. You have no grace...no style...you fight like a robot....there is not 'oomph' to any of your moves.

Oh Dante...what have they done!

I don't like this at all. >_<

I'm sure my opinion has been stated by others a million times already, but I'm going to reiterate why I'm not happy about the game.

It's not about Dante's hair. I couldn't care less if this Dante had white hair, black hair, green hair, whatever. Hell, it's not even about his redesign in general. What does upset me is that game, in the two trailers thus far, is not the wacky over-the-top game that the previous entries in the series have been. The game appears to be taking itself way too seriously, and that disappoints me.

See, I LOVE over-the-top games. My game of the year thus far is Bulletstorm, just for how ridiculous is it. So DmC going in a more serious, gritty direction is the last thing I want. I don't want some "the world is not as it seems" conspiracy story, I want "hey, demons are running rampant, let's kick their asses in extravagant ways." I'm not saying there isn't a place for the former, but that's not what I personally want from a Devil May Cry.

There's also the fact that I don't trust Ninja Theory to make a good action game, though admittedly I've never actually played one of their games. I've just heard bad things about the fighting aspects of what they've done. I hope to have the chance to play Enslaved sometime in the future to see if my fears are warranted or not.

To answer the question asked in the opening post, I would much rather this game have been a new IP as opposed to a Devil May Cry. I'm not entirely dismissing the game as of yet, but two trailers in and so far the only reason I'd consider paying 60 bucks for it is the name value. I really, honestly hope my opinion changes as we get to see more, but right now I'm disappointed.

Yeah there's a significant difference between having a terrible restaurant opening up by your house and having you favorite place close down.

When you tire of eating soup you don't ask the restaurant to stop making soup, you order something else on the menu. How is dropping a coherent style and handing off a good franchise to an amateur developer a good departure?

I suggest less DMC elements, more Bayonetta elements.
Bayo was worse than dmc1,3 and 4.

If it was an entirely different IP, I just wouldn't pay attention to it. It'd be another below-mediocre action game from Ninja Theory. It wouldn't arouse any fan-rage because there'd be no fan-rage to arouse.

As is, what I hate about this project most is a tie between how unnecessary it is and who is in charge. Devil May Cry 4 was essentially the highest selling game of its genre. Financially speaking, the franchise was still kicking. No reboot was necessary. Improvements, yes, but a complete change in direction was not only unnecessary, it was stupid.

First point of hatred: Capcom is producing this with the intention that it will sell at least five million copies. This is stupid for two reasons. One, this is a niche genre. Even the most highly recognized game of the genre, God of War, doesn't have sales figures like that. Two, they gave this project to Ninja Theory. Ninja. Theory. Quick, name a Ninja Theory game that sold more than two million units. Exactly.

This brings me to my second reason of hatred. They gave this series, a series that is not only the epitome of this subgenre of game in terms of sheer technical complexity, it pretty much created the damn subgenre, to Ninja Theory, a group of developers who have shown a hilarious level of incompetence in designing action games. Heavenly Sword was a shameless God of War rip-off that couldn't even aspire to God of War's quality, and Enslaved was even worse.

Not only are they not equipped to handle this game from a technical standpoint, they aren't even equipped to handle it artistically. In the interviews they've done, they've made it blatantly obvious they haven't a clue what Devil May Cry is.

It's not some sort of social commentary that draws influences from what's "underground." It's an over-the-top style-saturated romp through hordes of horrifying demons courtesy of an arrogant pretty boy who not only decimates them in fantastically stylish fashion, but he does so with a smile on his face and silly one liners rolling off his tongue. Ninja Theory is essentially the pretentious film student on the block who claims to see deep, philosophical references to the writings of Emile Durkheim from the choices of clothing of characters in a Hong Kong martial arts flick. This project does not belong with them, and given their intentions, I don't think it belongs to Capcom either.

Well my point was to ask people what they think of the "NEW" DMC. Ok, so you never liked the original Dante, but what about this new one? Do you think this new design of Dante (and the game) is an improvement? Or is it even worse than the original?

I've never been into Devil May Cry to begin with. I tried the first and fourth games, liking the original somewhat and loathing the fourth. To make matters worse, Every time I see the letters DMC, it always puts me in mind of...

Which also has a game currently in development.

Was it just me, or did the game look kinda crappy graphics-wise? Not that graphics is what makes or breaks a game, but it was just something that stuck out for me...

actually I have the perfect analogy for this. Fake Dante is to the real Dante as Ultimate Deadpool is to the real Deadpool. And for those who are unaware of what that entails, let me elaborate. We all know and love Deadpool for his silly attitude, corny lines, and wacky hijinks all while doing some pretty badass stuff. Ultimate Deadpool on the other hand is just a psychotic, sadistic villain with no traces of Deadpool's trademark wit and humor (y'know, everything people LIKE about him?). NT is like some boring, humorless douchebag who watched the Godfather, Scarface, Seven, the Deer Hunter, or The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly and decided that everything that wasn't "grim and gritty" wasn't worth watching. This is the kind of attitude that made a lot of shitty comics in the 90s. NT has no right to be making games period, let alone try something with a character best known for his style, self-aware silliness, and FUN attitude. Dante's a bit of an ass, but he's the kind of asshole that people like because he's FUN.
