I don't like that. I agree 100% that on the whole games are not art but, eh... well perhaps the OP should be more specific about the question because taking the same stance I voted yes._zuul said:i'll be an ico fanboy all i want, but i will not defend videogames, on the whole, as artistic.
i voted NO.
why?Ururu117 said:Any definition we make for art will be inherently flawed.
A broad definition can encapsulate a plethora of experiences. I just don't understand why this is so hopelessly difficult.Ururu117 said:Because it is an archaic word with so many different meanings and subjective parts to it that it is rendered essentially meaningless; no single definition can fully encapsulate it.
I don't have an emotional reaction to a spoon or a note card and not just any emotional reaction makes its source art. Also, art is the exploration of emotions because it needs to be intent on effecting emotions or to be put to that intent. This isn't to say something is either art or not as that would be a false dichotomy. There is such a thing as degrees.teh_pwning_dude said:I don't see what this has to do with emotion. And if I didn't, then wouldn't that negate everything? Everybody has a subjective emotional reaction to everything, therefore everything is art and the question is empty, if art truly is just about emotion.WayOutThere said:You don't think there is beauty to be had in nature?
