An interesting topic came up in my social psychology class the other day. It involved the minds of Sociopaths. It turns out that there is one question that can determine if you think like/ understand the mind of a sociopath. The question is:
A woman goes to her great aunts funeral. When there, she meets a very nice man. They talk for a while and hit it off. The man leaves before the woman can get his name or phone number. Two weeks later, she kills her sister. Why?

So she could meet the man again. She thinks that if he showed up to one funeral in her family he will show up to another

My questions to you, fellow escapists, did you answer this question in the same manner a sociopath would? Regardless of if you did or not, do you think this is a valid test, or does it just show that a person may understand the mind of a sociopath (rather than think like one)?

I doubt that answering a single question is right to determine a wether you are a sociopath or not.

I need more proof. Because you can see it as the answer of a very hard riddle.

I agree that one question is not much to base it off of. This is just a "sign", if you will, that it is possible.

I knew that answer, but because i've heard it before.

I think this (the question) is more a joke than a usefull indicator.

I paused for about a second, then got it easily.
Does this mean I have to see a psychologist?

Was that her first route of action? Did she try the phonebook, asking relatives, perhaps the internet?

You see, the problem with most philosophy, personality, or morality questions is that is answer is almost always "Depends." This is because there is no one or the other. In a manner of speaking, the world is a sea of shades of gray.

I got a no. But even after i read the right answer it didn't make sense. What guarantee does she have? Succes to risk ratio? I doubt that a sociopath thinks like that. From what i've read there are loads of people with the diagnose and all you notice with them is that they are way more cynical and calculating. You can walk through you're entire life with no one ever knowing, including yourself. This made as much sense as someone stabbing a hobo on an open street to get his change and or booze.

The answer popped into my head before I finished reading the question. Does that make me a sociopath?

It's a real question I heard in my psych class. Someone else in the class got the answer quickly because they had seen in on 30 Rock. So that very well could be it's source =P. I don't know for sure. I just thought it would make for interesting conversation here lol.
