This recently occured to me while talking to some kid in my Junior class. He had no idea games even came out for the PC. I've had this come up several times, even when I was a bit younger.

Do you think most console gamers (excluding anyone on this site of course) know the PC exists?

I am mainly(99.9%) a console gamer. I have played games on my PC though. I played through Half Life 2 and Far Cry on it. I also played a little Warcraft 3.
I prefer consoles though.

I have never played a PC game because my PC cannot run it, but I was always aware of the games coming out on the PC.

For other console gamers, probably not. Especially Wii and PS3 owners because most of their games are not on also on PC, but 360 owners are always aware because of Games for Windows and the 360-PC crossovers

From my experience, no. A lot of people I've talked to seem to not even know that there was an original Half-Life and Fallout.

I spent a long time discussing Left 4 Dead with someone recently, getting very excited about the prospect of playing with (okay, pwning) him, and asked him what his steam id was. Of course, he was on 360. We both got our wires crossed and had figured that our system was the only option, even though we knew that the game is out elsewhere... so it's not just the console gamers, it's us too!

L4D on 360 is pitiful compared to PC, though. I like 360 for some stuff, but that game works so much better on PC.

Unless the process of purchasing a console game has changed dramatically since I stopped going to brick-and-mortar stores, console gamers who are unaware of the PC as a gaming platform have ignored some pretty obvious entire walls in their game stores, not to mention common cultural knowledge that my grandparents possessed. I don't think that it's unfair to say that you need to be incredibly, unbelievably stupid to not know that games for PC do in fact exist. I think it's far likelier that you are just incredibly bad at detecting sarcasm.

No, and lets keep it that way.
And 65 bucks for a console game where the same game with better graphics runs you at most 50 on a PC, nuff said.

I do not know a single person who doesn't know there are games for the PC. I would like to meet that person, however.

I know a few people who dont know of pc gaming. I also know people who know it exists, but think its inferior, and that using a mouse to control an fps is absurd. I felt my insides churn when that was said to me.

I think most people don't care enough to game on the pc because for people that are not too tech savy the pc is for business/facebook/extremely casual gaming only. I mean let's face it the entry barrier on pc is way too high, even with the BS 600$ gaming computers(that you have to build yourself....yeah, good luck getting the average person to pull that one off) that meganerds seem to boast about it is still the cost of a launch PS3 that works right out of the box with minimal knowledge of anything. So no, either the pc gaming market is just not on the radar of most gamers or those of us that appreciate it aren't willing to go through the trouble I mean seriously, the kind of machine necessary to run something that looks as good like killzone 2 is either too expensive or waaaayyyy too much trouble to build yourself for 600 bucks....which once again is the price of a launch ps3, enough said.

Exactly, i cant imagine playing an fps with anything BUT a mouse. I'll give you goldeneye, but that game was almost perfect, a controller is just too imprecise and awkard for them. Don't get me wrong, im not hating on consoles, but PC in the long run is much cheaper.

I've actually heard someone say "They still make games for the computer?"

I'm a console gamer, but I've always wanted to play some of the PC-only RPGs. Unfortunately, my computer can't actually play any, so I only have my consoles.

Of course. Chances are they are probably using a PC right...now.

I was raised on PC gaming but I gave up upgrading my PC all the time just to play the games I wanted and switched to consoles. I also got sick of downloading so many freakin drivers. I'm now more happier and less strapped for cash. Occasionally a blinder will come out on the PC that I can't get on the console and I'll fork out for that, but they are few and far between.

I think some do....but some dont. I talked to my friend a couple of weeks ago about GTA IV. He responded "Oh yah speaking about that, when will that go on sale?" I told him that it came out almost a year ago. This is the kid that grew up on a PS1 and PS2 and got a PS3 for cristmas. You would expect him to know but he just didnt.
