Sounds like punishment to me.

And I'd say no. What happens outside of school isn't their business. Let the police handle it.

So... anyone know any good jokes...?

OT, I'd say no but if a child is being bullied outside of school by a fellow pupil, I say the teachers should step in by any means. If the student confided in the teacher for example and they urged them to speak to their parents.
They shouldn't be able to punish you for going to parties or what not, it's in your own time.

No, as long as you're doing fine in school, whatever problems you have outside of school is none of your schools bussiness.
For instance, if you're smoking weed every friday after school, your school has nothing to do with it, unless it affects your grades, and tbh i think even your grades are your own damn responsibility, the school is there to provide teachings, and responsible for providing good lessons and help with said lessons, you're responsible for doing your homework, and following the lessons.
But back to the weed, the school shouldn't do shit about it, they should complain to you if your grades are falling, and tell you to get your shit togeather or gtfo, and then it's your own responsibility, to stop smoking IF it's the weed thats your problem, which it doesn't have to be. (i smoked durring high school and still got the best grades in the class)

My old school sorta did that, but it was a live-in school, so they had say of the stuff we could do while going there. No drinking was one of them. Not surprisingly, it wasnt honored much

No and I hate it when jobs and schools do that.

My best friend got expelled for something he said about the school on his blog.

Schools should punish for something you've done in school, your parents and the police can handle the rest.

I hate when teachers think they're the world police. Punishments in school are enough as it is, the last thing I need is them punishing me for what I do outside of the place.

A school's jurisdiction ends off of its own property. They have no reason to punish students' misdeeds on their own time.
I wouldn't honour the punishment if my school were to punish me for socially drinking or something of the like. It would just be absurd.

School uniforms are the norm here, so anything punishable happens on weekends when you're not in school uniform. If you're in school uniform then yes, you are a representative of the school so anything that you do is reflected back to the school. Otherwise no.

No, but if it is something against the law a teacher from the school as a citizen can phone the police.

Otherwise, its really a job for the police and none of the schools buisiness.

It depends. For example, my old school used to say that if you're representing the school in any way, even in sports or competitions, or if you're in school uniform, then you follow school rules. That said, I was at a grammar school with pretty strict rules (though most of the teachers were pretty lax about keeping them 100%, we had some pretty cool teachers in my time :D). But people could still be punished for breaking rules when 'representing the school in public'. However, in the case described by the OP, then the school has no right to punish you. If you're representing the school even inadvertently, then yeah. At a party with friends, or the like? Massive no-no.

No. What you do in your personal life should have nothing to do with school. If you do it on school grounds then the school can do whatever it wants to but legally they shouldn't be able to punish you for what you did somewhere else. The only other reason I could see is if you were conspiring to do something to the school or something.

I think perhaps if you're in uniform and doing something that reflects badly on the school, then in that case a punishment is acceptable, but any other situation, what you do is your choice and up to your parents/the police to punish you for.
