I personally don't find it attractive at all. I can't stand the smell, it makes me feel sick and it burns my nose a little. I hate how it clings to absolutely everything. I also can't stand the smoke itself or when it's blown in my face. I am beyond words, thankful and grateful my boyfriend quit smoking. I can handle if someone smokes one a day, I can't handle 5 and beyond a day. Plus the health effects bother me too. After seeing a family member die because of the long term effects of smoking, I don't ever want to see anyone else just waste away painfully into nothing because of it.

That being said, I won't be preachy to people who do smoke. It's their decision and they know what they are getting into. I just respectfully disagree with smoking.

Nope. I like to think I'm a pretty open minded guy when it comes to finding women attractive, but smoking is one of my few "well, she's cute/pretty/etc. but nope" triggers. You can be the hottest lady in the world but as soon as you light up that cigarette, I'm instantly not interested.

After the thread about the woman suing the tobacco company I thought id make this thread

There are a number of reasons why smoking is unattractive. Its smells, its an addiction and its unhealthy. Do you really want a potential partner to die early on you

I say this as a smoker. I know its not a nice habit but what do you guys think? Would it put you off someone just because they smoked?
I might be able to date a smoker but probably would never be able to live with one. Seriously that shit gets into just about everything you own. I have to change clothes after visiting my father-in-law.

Few weeks on and a few months off myself. Guess I'm an occasional smoker.

I think its bloody disgusting. Especially the second hand smoke. Definite turn off, although not enough to keep me from dating someone, unless they smoke Iin the house or with the car windows up. Would drive me crazy.

yeah I'm with you on that and I only smoke once or twice a day. People talk about us like we smear crap everywhere or something.
Replace crap with tar and nicotine and that is pretty much what you do.

If you want to smoke then good for you, but expect me to enjoy your company while you do or after you've finished.

Eh, I said no, having smoked before, and not gotten used to the taste of ash.

Still, I dunno, seeing a woman with a cig hanging out of her mouth has some appeal. A fav H-game character had a cig in her mouth all the time, but it was never lit.

Yes. I smoke, so do all of my close friends and most of my acquaintances. As a result I find that I tend to date smokers because when I go out I subconsciously gravitate towards 'the smoking area' so thats where I meet people. I have dated non-smokers before and its always a sticking point; usually started with the incredulous reaction of "Holy cow! Do ALL of your friends smoke!?", swiftly followed by "Yep, problem?". On a side note I have just realised that all of my friends tend towards dating smokers too. I guess it just makes it easier to integrate into the herd or something.

Nope, I don't think I could deal with dating a serious smoker. I get a sore throat just from walking around a Las Vegas Casino, and even if I really love this hypothetical smoker, I also enjoy not dealing with sore throats.

I'd say it depends on the person smoking. Of its a woman in her twenties, constantly wheezing, reeking of smoke, and the like, then yes. It's going to turn me off. Now if she looks and smells normal and smokes that's cool. So, I wouldn't say I find smoking attractive or unattractive, just a trait about them.

Edit: I should probably add that she would be smoking outside. I don't want my home to smell like a bonfire.

Not a chance. I'm pretty straight edge. No drugs, no smokes, no nothing like that. I don't need it, and I don't want it. Nor do I want it in anything or anyone I associate myself with. I mean, I won't stop liking a friend cause he/she smokes, but I will never date them or anything if they did smoke. It's just gross, sorry

I'd say smoking is a habit that has decades' worth of iconography attached to it. Between the Femme Fatale asking for a cigarette and Columbo's bedraggled, nicotine-fuelled and clumsy demeanor, there's a ton of tropes we've associated to education, high breeding, sophistication - or even to hard-bitten temperaments, rebels, nonconformists, etc...

As an image or a concept; as something that's used to communicate a character's traits or personality, yes; it's absolutely attractive. I'm a big fan of the bygone days of the Gentlemen's Club and Smoking Jacket Era, of the ivory-lined pipes the Great White Hunters along the lines of Allan Quartermain were usually depicted as toting.

Would I start smoking just for the added looks, though? Absolutely not. Cigs, pipes and hookahs are useful narrative devices to me, but I'm in no hurry to start messing with my already diminished lungs. Lifelong asthma sufferer here, and I'm getting a close look at Pulmonary Fibrosis thanks to an uncle of mine and his forty-plus years of romance with the cancer sticks... Ew.

Literally just got turned off by a ready girl who was smoking. Its peer pressure that starts it, therefore you cant have much independence of character if you smoke. That and it kills you, so its pretty bloody stupid.

No, it's one of those things that is so blatantly gross it will (and has) immediately turn me off a person.

It's like, say you saw a person puke, then bend over and slurp it up, like a dog. Fucking unfathomably disgusting, that is how I view smoking.

Attractive; no most certainly not. It can look cool, Sean Connery drawling out "Bond, James Bond" and snapping his lighter shut with a cigarette gently puffing in his mouth is just awesome. It's crap if you have to put up with the smell, the stains or the taste if your significant other is a smoker but as a purely visual element - it looks cool.

Nope, and like a lot of people said already, the smell would put me off, i mean, my aunt's husband is a chain smoker and it's not...Pleasant to be around, i have a very sensitive nose and i can actually feel my throat closing because of the smoke.

So, if it's like that, i imagine how would i fare having to kiss someone who smokes, probably not a very pleasant experience.

I find the smell of cigarette smoke IMMEDIATELY repulsive. I cannot stand it. I would never be able to date a smoker. Just... no. Uuuugh. *vomit*

I can barely hang out with friends who are smokers, and most of them don't even smoke that much. It's that awful to me.

I can't stand it because I hate the smell. It has nothing to do with the health risks or what smoking says about a character, but I cannot tolerate the flipping smell.
