Considering the fact that there is almost, if not ever, never a Gay person in a very successful game, would this affect a persons view of homosexuality? It makes it seem as if everyone is straight and being gay is not possible. And to a person or kid who does not know someone who is gay, and is never away from the XBox or the Wii or the PS3, being gay is not acceptable, and not possible. Do you think this is true? What's your opinion?

I don't think children (or people) can or should learn about sexuality from video games.

Apart from the fact that it's something they'll pick up as part of being a functioning member of society, other forms of media like TV, films, books and even music expose this to people.

If someone is in front of their consoles and are isolated as much as you're suggesting, then I think they're going to have bigger problems in life than not being aware of homosexuals properly.

I think the game developers work within their interests to create pro/antagonists who will appeal to the greatest number of players. I think there are plenty of straight guys who'd never buy a game with a homosexual main character, but I can't think of any homosexual guys who would not buy a game because you played a straight.

As well as which, media is so concerned with being PC that it's just easier for them to ignore gay communities alltogether, unless it's late night comedy. Show me a kids TV programme featuring a homosexual or lesbian couple.

I suppose children learn as they grow, as with all things. Anyway, I wouldn't go so far as to say videogames affect issues of sexuality anyway, kids aren't straight because Samus is a chick, they are because in most cases they have both parents in an equal relationship raising them.

Yea, I guess that's true, but when kids are playing games like InFamous and stuff like that ( I mean like 8 or 9 or younger by the way), they will pick stuff up and then think that being gay is a bad thing..... And just to put this out there so no one asks, I'm not gay, 100% straight..

Games didn't shape my opinion of gay people. My best friend, who is gay, and my music appreciation professor in college, who is also gay (and awesome), shaped my opinion of gay people, namely that I think gay people are just as likely as straight people to be swell or an asshole. I've known a few gay people who were totally irredeemable shitheads too, just like the many straight douchebags (and awesome people) I've known.

Pardon me for being vulgar, but what gender you stick it in/lick/have it stuck in or licked by doesn't affect personality.

If there's something going, I'm not sure if it'd even be conscious. I don't want this to get blown up and get out of hand, but it's amazing just how deeply homophobia is ingrained into society. I'm sure this sort of scenario has happened to you all on multiple occasions: a guy friend says "I gotta leave guys I have a date." Someone replies "What's his name?" and everyone laughs, because apparently the idea of a straight guy being gay is hilarious. And I'm not being self-righteous here and saying I'm exempt, I'm just saying you'd be surprised at how unconscious a lot of our prejudices are.

Yea, I have two uncles, both of which are gay. One of them is the one of the nicest person I've known. The other one is an

as you said. Although, if you are attached to a game or games for too long, you can be changed by it a lot, including your view on sexuality...

How many characters do you never know their sexuality? ANy of them could be gay then. Not all gay people are very feminine (males) or butchy (females).
Anyone whose view on homosexuals is based on games is extremely naive and should be kept away from religious groups at all costs.

If my kids were playing video games that much, I'd be more worried about them thinking that Dwarves loved mining gold and fighting Orcs.

Imagine the embarrassment when they ask a little person why hasn't he got a beard or where his axe is.

"Hey mister, did the goblins shave your beard off because you wouldn't mine gold for them?"

I haven't played Infamous yet, so could you elaborate on what aspects of it are homophobic?

And I also think that your insistence that you're not gay - 100% not gay! - is very telling. A lot of males are very uncomfortable with identifying with, or being identified as, someone who's not completely heterosexual. Game developers, who are themselves generally young-ish and male, are perfectly aware of this.

I don't think games by themselves affect a person's views, but I think a lot of them do contribute to homophobia. Just go online in Call of Duty or Halo, and you'll find kids screaming homophobic and racist epithets. In fact, just today, when I was playing WaW, some dude was saying how everyone that killed him was a fag, and stuff like that.

I just think it is sort of a mockery. EXCEPT FOR LESBIANS let me tell you i bet after banging the blue chick on mass effect people where much more accepting to lesbians. Seriously >.>
