while I loved bioshock, I can't say I'm entirely sure they'll be able to pull off a movie based on Rapture, unless they do it from the very beginning, make it start as a biography of Andrew Ryan and continue to the fall of Rapture... otherwise... I just don't see it working.

they were making a halo movie but i think it's pretty much been cancelled now. they're making a gears movie which i'd like to see if they pull it off. as for bioshock i think it could work as a movie. i'd like to see a prototype movie as i love the story in the game.

btw i think the general view is that movies made from games tend to suck

I have a good feeling A Bioshock film will fail. Mainly because films based of games usually fail. I am sure that something that had nothing to do with the game at all, will be added, like in the resident evil films, what relevance does Alice have with the series, why arent we focusing on Jill, Barry, Wesker...

Most game to film transitions don't go very well at all, but this is one I would love to see pass every expectation. Heres to hoping :)

No you thinking the other way around its games made from movies not movies made from games because they havent really made a big title like bioshock with an amazing storyline into a film, and thats why i think gears would be good but halo would be pretty much balls considering the story just be star trek in cool suits not lycra

No. History has thought us that movies and video-games can not be combined.

I'm not sure actually, I have the typical

"GAME MOVIE FAIL = DO NOT WANT"

Kneejerk response, but the whole attraction and enjoyment i got out of the game was the atmosphere, and they did that really well, so hopefully it'll be similar in the film version. I'm basically trying to say it FELT like I was playing a film

Well it will be financially successful anyway, due to the games huge fan base many people will go to see the movie. So it will make money. Whether it will be a success in the eyes of those who pay to see it i don't know, but i hope it will. I am definitely going to go see it.

Sometimes I think to myself 'if something worked as a game, why not leave it as such... why do we HAVE to see a movie too'. So that's been my theory for a while and so as much as I love Halo, Bioshock and Gears of War. I think I'd rather keep them as games.
That said if Spielberg ever really does crack open the dusty chest that contains the concept of a Halo movie I would still give it some attention, would prefer if it were Peter Jackson admittedly, but even if I went and watched it... odds are I'd do it just to be horrified at how badly Hollywood screwed it up. Because the chance of them getting it right is low.

It could be a success, but people are dumb and never learn. Almost every time movie producers have a good game with a good storyline & large fanbase to turn into a movie, they invariably give it to Uwe Boll, who promptly takes a dump on the screenplay from a great height

One of the problems I can see is trying to get the main character to emote and fit in. After all in the game, the main protragonist is a brainwashed mute who only ever mutters the one sound, "argh".
If they stick to the origional story from the game, who ever plays our annonymous child molesting friend will have an easy time learning the script

Bioshock will be successful, at least at the box office. Transformers 2 and GI Joe were successful, even though they were shit. Game movies tend to fair well (At least the first ones) at the box office, because of the fans, not because the films are good (Most are shit). Bioshock will be successful, but probably not very good.

I still don't get how bioshock would lend itself to a moive, the setting maybe but the games plot?

Games don't work as movies and vice versa, the story for both needs to be changed to fit and if you're going to change it whats the point?
On a side note, there seem to be quite a few fan made bioshock traliers using footage from The City of Lost Children, make of that what you will..

Not sure, but the whole setting and objectivist undertones gives Bioshock a lot of potential for making a really really good movie. Say, a movie loosely based on the game, following the game step by step never ever works, the 2 mediums are too different for that. I can see a movie about the fall of Rapture working out fantastically.

I predict a dull generic action movie with some horror elements and the characters sharing nothing in common with their gaming counterparts besides names. The posters will share the game's visual design but the film will look like a generic post-apocalyptic city (I predict AK-47's, everyone has AK's after the Apocalypse) except it will be vaguely underwater.
At some point being underwater will create a short plot driving action sequence that everyone will dry out from 30 seconds after their escape. I predict innocents being trapped and the hero having to 'go outside' to save them.

Splicers, Big Daddies and co will all be trotted out for their designated Hollywood blockbuster 4 minute action sequence after which they will neither be seen or heard from again.

It will all be very boring and very predictable.

Well, seeing as it was (sorta) based on a book (Atlas Shrugged), I reckon Bioshock might have a shot at being a good film.
But it'd have to go into the backstory of it... in fact, Jack would only be a minor character, only a means of driving the story (seen through flashbacks).

IMo it's to early to know, but I know that I'll enjoy it regardless of what happens.
