Yes. Easily yes. There does not need to be massive amounts of violence to tell a good story. If it is relevant to the story, I'm okay with violence, but other than that I don't like it. I see enough violence outside of movies, games, books, ect. to seek it out. I still enjoy games like Sniper Elite 2, but the violence doesn't overwhelm me.

What do you consider to be a "point?" Serious question.
I notice people are talking alot about the pacing structure of the film..rather than the graphic content itself...seperate thing though

hmm...thats a good question....I guess by "point" I mean if removing the violence would lessen the "impact/message" of the work...make it less

like for example if Requiem for a dream all the charachters got happy endings, or in black swan [spoiler/] its all a dream and Nina is totally fine...which would defeat the purpose because the whole story of the film fits with swan lake and how she has to "die"[/spoiler]

I depends. I can either get boring and tedious after a while, like Transformers 3, or it can be a fun adrenaline rush, like The Raid.

Not sure about books, since I don't read much.

Just depends on how you handle it.

If you're given violence without any context: IE LETS FIGHT. OK! RAH.

Then yeah that's bad. But if it's: You killed my wife, raped my daughter, and brainwashed my son. I'LL KILL YOU! OK! RAH.

Then I'm fine with that.

It's all relevant, if the book is about a torturer,a planet full of violence(like the roman empire was) or if it fancies the book writer then there can never be enough of it. I think it's just because of me being violent for the hell of it. GMod is very good to test these methods of torture!

Shoot-out, Crank/Crank 2, and Kill Bill are a few right off the top of my head (I'd also, to a lesser extent, put Falling Down on this list).
I haven't watched Shoot-out, but IIRC, the Crank films had comedy, and neither them nor Kill Bill were that violent. At least, not on the level of torture porn or military porn films.

There is nothing wrong with a movie being nothing but action, same as there is nothing wrong with a movie like Airplane being nothing but jokes. The problem comes when you try to have a developing story and fails to give equal attention to both the story and action.

There isn't "too much". There is "bad" action and "bad" violence.

If something is done well, you can't complain it had "too much" anything.

Black Hawk Down, for example, sucked huge balls not because it was nonstop action, but because it was nonstop action with characters whose names I didn't know and whose faces I couldn't recognize, wrapped in a story that I didn't give a shit about and couldn't follow, set to music that I would not recognize if I heard it again.
I beg to differ. The action changed pace several times, I don't need to know names to enjoy a story and I care about what happened in Somalia. Plus, the soundtrack is pretty awesome.

It was bad for you. But it wasn't the fact that it had too much action. Besides, they were fighting their way trough Mogadishu. I would definitely raise an eyebrow if they had some time for tea and biscuits.

Military movies aren't even that violent.

It depends on the context and execution, there's not a set amount of "too much", but if it's not paced or framed properly, or seems arbitrary, then, yeah, it can come across as too much.
