regardless if you believe in atheism, chritianity, or haruhism, a bunch of people have basicly been trying to convince me(on this very website) that my beliefs are wrong and chastze me when I try to defend myself (eastern orthodox christian by the way) does anyone seriously believe that if they shout that they are wrong that they will submit to you?

If we provide compelling enough evidence or claims, then you may look into it further. That's probably the best we can hope for.

I say it takes a deity, because generally it takes some kind of crisis for people to actively seek out a religion. I do know that arguments don't really lead to any kind of conversion, you gotta make the person want your religion.

There is no commodity cheaper than belief.

Anyone can believe anything--
why fight over it? Its futile.

No one who is fully dedicated to their views could be converted (without extreme circumstances), but those who aren't quite solid in their views can.

It's like (for a US comparison) swing states, although many states generally go to the same side every election, there are a few states with substantial enough numbers of voters who aren't solid in their views to effect elections.

Shouting won't get anything done, but logic will.

I don't care what you or anyone else believes, but when the pledge of allegiance and public money fail to adhere to the first fucking ammendment (where I live, anyway), then yeah, I get a little uppity. Once in public schools they started handing out bibles. What if people started handing out copies of the god delusion, huh? People would be pissed, and with good reason. It is a public institution, and should remain such. God should not run the government.

Sorry if I missed the point of the thread, I just had to say that.

Atheism is not a belief, it is the rejection of theistic claims of deities.

Why should I care if you believe in sky-daddy? As long as you don't try to hoist your ideas on others then I could care less. The only time I care is when you try to indoctrinate impressionable minds rather than allowing them to explore. Also, if you're willing to admit to the truth, that you don't know with any certainty that you are right, I don't mind the slightest what you believe in.

What I do care about is lying though. I can't stand liars. Especially those that say "I know with absolute certainty" when they most obviously do not.

Over the internet? Never. People rarely take other peoples arguments so seriously that they would actually learn/change based off of it. Friend? Mayby with time, BUT they would never admit that it was my arguments that lead them to that.

Why would i want to? People believe in things that they want to, it's up to them to change their own beliefs. I can tell people my point of view and what i believe, but i'd never expect anyone to change their beliefs.
If i was God on the other hand...

Yeah, I don't really care what other people believe as long as they aren't on some kind of crusade to get others to follow them. Oh, and if they aren't telling me I'm going to burn in Hell for eternity and that science is bunk. 'Cuz you know, that's kind of annoying...
