Well, I found this (not exactly Dettol, but a compound that predominantly makes it up)

In 1952 Joseph (9) conducted the first LD50 study with PCMX. From intraperitoneal injections in mice of PCMX in aqueous solutions the LD50 was 2.88 g/25 g mouse. Using the Reed-Muench formula the LD50 was determined to be 120g/kg and the minimum lethal dose (MLD) was 115.2g/kg.

Hope that helps any chemistry majors figure this one out.

Either way, I'd say that he'd have to be breathing it in every breath of every day for years.

Oh, and another:

Like other household cleaners, Dettol is poisonous and should not be ingested. In an extreme case, a forty-two-year-old English man died from Dettol overexposure in May 2007.[4].

Dettol is also commonly used in Queensland, Australia, to kill feral Cane Toads (Bufo marinus), also known as the Giant Neotropical Toad or Marine Toad. Toads may be sprayed with a solution of Dettol or dabbed with the liquid.[citation needed] The substance is rapidly absorbed through the toad's skin causing sudden death as a result of toxic shock.[citation needed]

Hat to break it to u, but Mercer was a virus. Anti-bacterials (like dettol) would have no effect. u
'd need anti-virals
No you wouldn't. Viruses are even easier to kill than bacteria. Little bit of rubbing alcohol, dash of bleach, strong UV light, even exposure to air can destroy viruses.

Yeah, some (and most) viruses. Other viruses (the ones that kill people) are generally fairly resistant to these sort of things.

And yeah anti-bacterial wouldn't affect viruses.

Heat seeking rockets that are impossible to dodge. And fire shit loads of them. Oh, wait, that already happens in Prototype. Well, it always kills MY Alex Mercer.

An anti-bacterial spray, the kind you would spray on counters to disinfect them.
Well in that case it has to be a SHITLOAD of Dettol spray. A whole tanker of it,or even whole sea.

Hurling him into the Sun,black hole,or some variety of Negative Space Wedgie would probably be faster.
Ugh you linked to TvTropes...goodbye next class, I can't get out of here!

And I'm not sure about Dettol, but if that doesn't work concentrated Simple Green should do the job.

Dettol isn't an antibacterial. Its a disinfectant. Kills cold and flu viruses (as they adverts love to tell us)

And your statement about the ones that kill people is somewhat off. HIV is destroyed by air. Chlorination kills pretty much everything. As does UV light. 62% ethanol will annihilate SARS.

The point is kinda moot, Mercer isn't a virus. He's infected by it. Just dousing him dettol wouldn't help. Drowning him in it would work, but then so would normal drowning.

Well, how does one stop a walking biological apocalypse. As much as I think Cole McGrath (disclaimer: I like Cole) is outclassed by Mercer, if we put him on Angel Dust and set him on one of those electrified floors, he might... Be able to piss him off enough to be distracted so a side crew of Marines with Detoll could flank and hose him down. Then we drop a mini nuke from a FatBoy just to be sure.

Then we have a crew go in afterward and use more Detoll. Then we set that crew on fire with napalm. That might work. Maybe.

What I was trying to say is that there are viruses that are resistant to these sorts of things.

As to your statement whether Mercer isn't a virus...

Have you finished the game? It is revealed that the original Mercer is the one who releases the virus upon the city and is then gunned down and killed. The virus then takes the form and some of the memories of Mercer but the Mercer you play is the virus, DX-1118 Variant A.
