Does anyone else find the poll results hilariously unsurprising?

Mind you, there is no "just average" option so the poll is kinda broken but yeah.

I think academically I'm below average, and practically just average, or the smallest bit above. I have no delusions I'm God's gift to mankind. And I'm perfectly okay with that.

Everyone likes to think they are smarter than one another, because the only mind you can hear is your own. Although most people are humble enough not to call themselves geniuses at least.

Well, I'm doing my A-levels, and I choose 3 of the hardest ones (biology, chemistry and physics), and I'm getting B's, so yeah I'd say I'm above average. Even if we're not talking academic knowledge, I still think I know a lot more than your everyday guy.
Are you in AS or A2 right now?
Despite the fact you didn't ask me, I'm in my AS levels!

I'd say I'm intelligent. Not sure if I'm above average or not. Various doctors have told me I have a quick analytical mind. I definitely know people who would seem to be more intelligent than myself though. Beyond that, I do have an alright level of general knowledge, and I like to think I'm one of the more mature people in my age bracket.

Edit: Oh yes, before the government pulled its funding, I was on the British register for gifted and talented children. That said, I did extremely average in my GCSEs (Cs, Bs, and the odd A) due to extreme laziness and a dislike of exams...

On the flipside, I almost published a book.
I'm in A2 right now, blasted exams are tomorrow...

Maths, Physics and Geography all across the next 2 days and I need to maintain my AAB to get into the Uni I prefer.

The pressure is quite suffocating at times, I haven't had proper fun in about 2 weeks as I get the nagging feeling that I'm wasting my time ever time I play a game.

Can't wait until they are done...

I'm at Craven College, North Yorkshire.

I had my first Philosophy exam earlier this month and exam nerves made me make a terrible mistake.

There were five sections to the exam, as it was issued nationwide. There were two we were supposed to answer, that we'd been specifically educated to do.

In my haste and nervousness, I overlooked this and did ALL FIVE!

The rest of my exams are in May and June, thank god.

I'd go with less than average, simply because there is no average option. I'm smart in some things and I can learn other things pretty fast, but I'm not someone who's knowledgeable in a whole lot of subjects.

At first I was worried about sounding arrogant by saying that I think I'm above average, but then I saw the poll results.

But seriously I would say above average, not by much though. I just pick up things fairly easily

Well a lot of the higher ups at my old school believed me to be somewhat gifted so I was sent to an analysist to determine where I stood mentally. He came to the conclusion that I am very much above average.

So...

I know I am more intelligent than the average person. I have the paper to prove it.

MUAHAHAHA! BOW DOWN TO ME MORTALS!

Below average.

From an education standpoint I have university experience which may place me above average in some people's minds.

That said, I place little value in book smarts compared to life smarts or practical knowledge. I'm not remotely handy, I have poor social skills, and I'm extremely forgetful when it comes to retaining anything that is not of direct personal interest. The facts I've managed to retain over the years are heavily centered on my hobbies rather than anything constructive.

Oh wait I just remembered something. About two years ago I had to take a test for dyslexia, because I did too good on an assessment! Basically my reading age was about 18 and my writing age was about 14, both the highest ages you could get for the tests we had. So because the gap was so big I had to have a dyslexia test. So I guess that makes me above average.

I can't help but look at everyone calling themselves above average intelligence and begin to wonder that perhaps average intelligence is higher than they believe it to be, therefore making them average.

I mean, isn't intelligence relative? If everyone is calling themselves above average, then surely that is average.
I'm just going by grades.

I predicted to get AAB and got a place to do Electronic and Electric Engineering at Uni, surely that would be enough to warrant calling myself above average even if it was only slightly above?

How then would you measure intelligence?
Certainly there are some people who have above average intelligence, what I meant was that because nearly everyone is saying they have above average intelligence, it's hard to actually tell what the average intelligence is.

P.S Are you doing A2? We have the same predicted grades :p Although I got places from Uni to do history not Electric Engineering.

I have an above average IQ (Anywhere from 110-140, the tests tend to vary it a bit... even the BBC one from a while back, because apparently being able to recognise the insipid filth people believe to be "celebrates" these days can be used to measure general intelligence. I don't think Einstein would be able to tell you who any of today's popular musicians are, are you trying to tell me Einstein was a retard BBC? ARE YOU!? Ok, rant's done. Back to work people), so, yes, I do think I'm smarter than the average person.

Do I think that being measurably more intelligent than the average person makes me somehow better than them? No.

(Why am I not surprised with the poll results? =p )

(Of course, intelligence can't simply be measured, I guess. There's different kinds of intelligence, aren't there? Someone might be good at solving logical problems, but be really terrible at maths, whereas you could be the human calculator and a terrible orator. Any kind of skill is a form of intelligence when you think about it.)

What do you mean by "smart"? If you mean logical reasoning, problem solving, and so on, I'd say I'm quite a bit above average. (I'm also an arrogant, annoying, obnoxious jerk when it comes to saying it, if you haven't noticed) However, if you also include social interaction, then I'm probably well below average. I'm extremely socially awkward, and, outside text-based conversation (Forums like this, text-chat, letters, e-mails) where I have time to think everything through, I tend to constantly talk and act stupid. I will happily admit to this fault, whilst I will quite jerkishly and probably annoyingly insist that I'm quite good (Though obviously not the best) at logical reasoning.

Just to brag, in an inter-school logic test waaay back in Year 7 (Going by British school system here), I got a gold certificate, which apparently placed me in the top 11%.

Hey, at least I'm honest about thinking this way, no?

Well I'm on line for a distinction with my current university course (top 5%). That's pretty much the only citable info I can give to determine whether or not I'm above average. Other than that I'm not perticually quick witted or anything and I think I might be slighty dyslexic in regards to maths and english. I am very good at spotting patterns, estimation and design however.

Where's the option for average anyhow?

I dont know, i have no evidence to prove one way or the other. Most people here are guessing and are going to be prejudiced. Thats not saying people here arnt smart but average is just that the middle ground most people fall into, that dosent mean you arnt intelligent it just means so are a lot of other people.

With this survey you are not going to reach a pool of average people.
This is a gaming board, asking people here is like asking people on a chess board: You are limiting the demographic, thus distorting reality.

Obviously people here are not going to get close to a 50/50 ratio, but that can not entirely be blamed on their arrogance. Probably the average gamer is more intelligent than the average person.

(You did not even qualify about how much above average we are talking. Even a tiny bit above average will yield the same result as Einstein McGenius)

I wouldn't want to boast, but I got through a rigorous interview process to get into one of the top universities in the world (if not the number one university, depending on who you ask). I know that I'm of above average intelligence.
Is it American or European Universities? I know that Americans you pay more for the same. Exact. Fucking. Thing. Seriously, the only benefit of having MIT or Harvard on your diploma is the name, you can get a much better schooling anywhere else for far cheaper. European schools I have no idea of as I obviously do not live in that area of the world (Oh though I wish to, damn lucky Europeans, with all that beautiful Architecture and history...)

Anyways,

I am unluckily in school with a class of relatively smart people. So the class is to each other average (IE: I feel average to Megan and Megan Feels average compared to the majority of the class). However, our IQ scores all average to above average but not to "Prodigy" or "Genius" levels. A lot of us are rather lazy (much like me and Matt) so we just don't really care 'bout HS. A perfect example of this laziness is coming to school sick with a cold and completely unprepared (IE: haven't studied, brought supplies, etc) for the ACT. I managed to get a 24 on my first time.
Ah, um, well... in that case, I guess I'm going to make you jealous. It's a European school, to be precise, the University of Cambridge. With all the fancy architecture and everything. Tuition fees are the same for any university in the UK as well, so it's much more reasonable than the ridiculously unfair pricing system in the States, as well.

Yeah, I'm doing A2.

Got a maths exam tomorrow. :O

Not looking forward to it.
Erg, anyone who can manage A2 maths deserves automatic respect. I have a politics exam on Tuesday, but other than that, no exams this time round. English and History are both coursework for the first half of A2.

Anyway we should probably stop now before we completely derail the thread :p
