This, a million times over. There is nothing more irritating than hearing a prepubescent tell you he fucked your mom.

What ever happened to age ratings on games damn it?

even if I "use it" I rarely say anything. I don't think anything I could say is ever helpful.

and if there's a handful of Brits having a laugh, I don't feel clever enough to contribute :p

I have voice chat on pretty much all the time, but that's with using a public steam chat where we have a small group of people we all know and actually like talking to.

Put me down as a sometimes. I'll use my mic whenever friends are online. I'll also use my mic on pub servers when people are trying to coordinate to beat another team. Makes the games far more fun, I'll lose interest about half an hour into a session of CoD unless some people are talking.

I do, but only on certain games and when I'm feeling like it is worth the effort. Often I have it plugged in and just don't use it.

I only use mic when I play either co-op or in a game with multiple friends who have one as well. Sometimes I use it to get some strategy going, but if no-one has one for a long time I feel a bit dumb and turn it off.

90% of the time no, unless i'm playing with friends or unless i'm about to troll on a troll for getting owned (sometimes happens in tf2)

otherwise there ain't much point...if i NEED to say something their is this handy thing called a text box

i normally have my mic muted but am listening only really talk to friends (and i swear a lot whilst gaming so for the sake of public decency keep my mic off most of the time)

I'm not very fond of being called a bundle of twigs or sticks bound together and used for fuel, nor do I care for being labeled as a person who is economically, politically, or socially disenfranchised simply because I happen to know what the fuck I'm doing in the game and you don't.

When I'm on XBL, I only talk to friends and their friends.

All the time, I enjoy chatting to people online. I've made a lot of good friends playing games online and I'm always up for making more. Just have to wade through a lot of shit to get there most of the time.

Nope. I enjoy making new friends as much as anyone, but not too many people I want to carry on a conversation with while trying to play something. And I seem to meet absolutely none of them via XBL or PSN, just angry kids and angsty teens.

I've never used one. Not even once. Granted, TF2 is the only game I play where it's applicable, but I still type anything I need to say there.

I do, but only with friends.

I use a normal headset on PS3 with a mute mic button, and I sometimes plug it in and just hit mute so that I don't have to individually mute everyone, and they won't be able to hear me. Obviously I don't have it on my head at that point.

I talk to my friends on Skype or xbox mic when I'm playing a game with them but for the most part I don't use my mic to talk to random people in games, because in general people are just shit.
