The only thing I used system link for is to avoid the recent patch on Red Dead. I'm sure it may be useful one day, but until then it could disappear for all I care.

I used it a fair bit last year, as I was living in halls, so everything connected to the internet was also on a local network. Found about 3 other people with xboxs, proceeded to have at least twice-weekly halo matches with 4-16 people, depending on how many people were using each xbox.

Local LAN play is much more stable and reliable than internet play. It's my preference when gaming with the bros. And it bothers me that fewer and fewer games have system link capability.

I system link all the time. I don't think it's a thing of the past at all.

Especially since most games have taken out the split screen.

If I want to sit around with a bunch of friends and game its the only way we can anymore.

Games seem to be moving away from the social aspect of gaming. Which is really really sad.
Not really, they're just making you go online and pay for it. *sigh* I miss split screen too.
I find that less social then actually being in the room with people though. Maybe I'm just looking at it different? Who knows.

Don't get me wrong, online is great. Especially when I got back to university in the fall. I can still game with my friends, but when I'm home I'd actually like to be able to sit and game with them.

Because of this if we can't system link we just don't game. We play cards or board games or something.

I played Halo 8 player with both teams on either TV, so it was a mix of splitscreen/system link.
That was fun, then spent the day messing about with other games.

Twas fecking ages ago though, I've been to LAN parties since then (PC obviously) and it's been much better.
