I usually call my friends it in jest as in "Lol, you're such a gay/queer/****** etc." but I wouldn't insult a person for being gay unless they were a dirty sod.

Well i use it in a sense as a parody of people who do use it as a genuine insult

I'm unsure why this is such a big deal to some people, maybe it's just the UK but no one realy cares. I've even used it when speaking too people who i know are gay and they don't seem to mind, they appreciate the intentional immature humor.

And you should too, you massive gay

i fucking hate it when people think that their better then me just because they don't use certain words and think that because they think its wrong, i should also conform to their PC attitude towards the way everyone should speak. I have the freedom of speech and i plan to use it however i like.
Damn right! I'm usually a little more polite in expressing myself, but this is what it boils down to. I don't need some one else telling me that I didn't mean what I meant because an uninvolved third party might not like it.
yeah and i actually know a gay guy. you know he's cool and he acts like a normal guy but, but he himself says gay in regular conversation. like we'll be talking about black ops and I'll say like, "yeah man you hear they got rid of quick-scoping" and he'll be like "wow that gay as hell"

people need to calm down and stop worrying about other peoples feeling.

hey, immature humour is fine, what i don't like is when it's used to callously insult someone or something you don't like. it's symbolic, by comparing anything you don't like to gays you are (perhaps unintentionally) forsaking gays and their lifestyle!

I do say things like "That's so gay" every now and then, but I don't mean it in an offensive way to homosexuals. To me, in a sense, the word has developed 3 seperate meanings. Happy, homosexual, and a synonym for stupid. When I say "That's gay" or "That's retarded", I'm using it as a synonym for stupid, and in no way am I intentionally trying to be insensitive/mean to anyone or anything. I have nothing agains't homosexuals or the mentally disabled, its just that I use the word as an alternate for stupid every now and then.

oh, freedom of speech is fine, essential perhaps in a sucessful community, but as someone once told me, just because you can say something, doesn't mean you should

Not to people, but when I'm playing Blazblue or something online and I lose a match I know I should have one, I've been known to let loose a few "GAAAAAAY" shouts.

I've also shouted "STAAAAAIGHT" once or twice though, for the lulz.

Pretty much, if it has a strong A, I'll shout it.
loool, that's funny, i'm tottaly gonna do that! (use "straight" as an insult that is)

Only ironically. Like if I'm with a gay or bisexual friend or relative who's in the act of doing something I do too, I may say "dude, that's gay." But only in private, only with someone I'm extremely familiar with who will understand that it's irony, and only over something which is clearly unrelated in any way to homosexuality. Basically, only if I know for a fact that we'll both be laughing heartily immediately afterwards. I have never, and will never, say it as an insult and mean it, or say it to someone who might wrongly interpret it as an insult.

No, because it's incredibly moronic and pointless, and implies that being gay, (or happy for that matter) is somehow a bad thing. And I think people who use it should be more creative, there are a thousand other infinitely more appropriate things you could call something in any given situation. I know people have the right to say whatever they like, freedom of speech and such, but just because you can say something, doesn't mean that you should.

we use gay, but not as an insult, more like a way of saying "what you just did" or "what you just said is something homosexual people does or says"

wich is only an insult to people that are either homophobics or plain stupid

ex:
"oh! i want that spotted dick in my mouth!!"

"hah, that sounds gay"

get it??

iv used it from time to time, im more likely to say queer, but i never use is as a proper insult, usually just to friends when there behaving like idiots but calling them somert else doesnt seem to fit. but i dont consider it homophobic to use the word gay unless your actually mean its wrong to be homosexual, gays just one of them words that doesnt has different meaning in context

What about the self-acknowledging use?
Using "gay" in the same way people use "hurr durr" or "desu".

It's one of the stupider insults of our generations, the stupidest probably being "jew" (thanks for that one, Southpark). Neither carry any logical negative connotations. Therefore its my "insult that really isnt insulting insult".

I guess it could still cause offense but hearing shit that basically means:
"That film so sexually attracted to the same gender"
...just sounds laughably dumb to me.

I use the word "Ghey", there is a difference :D
(are you trying to be funny or sardonic or something?)

That's like you labelling someone you think ripped you off, as a: "Jeuw"
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ghey

You don't get it. I'm not using it as an insult or in any condition that is insulting homosexuals.
Your example actually relates to a stereotype, whereas mine isn't connected to the original term.
Oh you're serious? Wow.

Do you use the term "gay" to describe a homosexual man? If so, don't use a term that sounds identical as an insult. It's immature, disingenuous and you're fooling no one but yourself.

The interpretation of the "ghey" insult is clear (even if you deny it yourself or play dumb about it) to both the target of the "ghey" insult and everyone else who hears, to shame them with accusations of homosexuality.

You're a hypocrite. You act as if you have a stance of moderation and acceptance of homosexuality - no nagging feelings of guilt - yet on the other you exploit and feed off homophobia for your own ends.

The real question is WHY? Why would you ever use the term "ghey" which comes from no where, it is UNDENIABLY a mere corruption of the word "gay".

If you think someone is a coward, call them a coward. If it's lame, call it lame.

Don't give me this white-guilt bullshit of "That's so gay, no offence to gay people because I'M TOO MUCH OF A COWARD to openly admit my prejudice and am stupid enough to think I can just bluff my way out with claims it's just a different spelling"

It's like the KKK using abusive language and them saying:

"Oh no, I was just saying 'neggars' not 'niggers', I swear!"
